African Mont Blank Quartzite in Kitchen?

Anyone use African Mont Blank Quartzite in their kitchen? Looking at a slab but hear it's not as strong as other quartzite types. Curious if anyone has experience with it.

I have this stone in my kitchen and I love it!!!! It does not etch or stain. The little crystals can pop out occasionally, but it’s not a widespread problem and I would use it again because it is just so beautiful.

I have a seperate thread with karin_mt, who is a geologist who generously shares her knowledge here on gardenweb. It seems there is a lot of debate as to whether this stone is quartzite or marble.

Hoping this thread is still alive. I just had 4 slabs of Silver Maccabus Quartzite installed. Literally can’t set a single thing down on it without getting marks. Some don’t come out Fabricator came out to reseal again with Tenax (which is what they originally used). At the stone showroom, I explicitly told the salesperson that I actually COOK in my kitchen. I have four kids/teens who use the kitchen. I purposely wanted quartzite for it’s durability. I’ve had quartzite before and it was indestructible. Now I have this and I can’t even set a glass of water down. How is this ok? Why are people (stone showrooms, fabricators, designers, GCs) even recommending this to customers? $25k just for the stone…for a kitchen I can’t even cook or eat in. Is there ANY option or cleaning solution that people have found to actually work so they can live with their kitchen? Thanks in advance.

benjesbride, one reason for rotating the shower and running it the width of the exterior wall would be to get rid of the existing half wall, which now creates a large dark area by the vanity. If I rotate the shower, I was thinking about putting both the shower head and the controls on the left hand wall. Stepping into the shower to turn on the water is not a big issue and I don't like the idea of having the shower head and the controls on separate walls. cpartist, thanks for the tip on the sliding glass doors. They certainly have changed over the last 25 years! I understand your point about a shower bench. Maybe a footrest or a couple of curved corner shelves would add a little bit of decor to that end of the shower, even though I doubt the spray from the shower head would reach that far. One question: How wide was the curb on your 3' x 6' shower?

@Alohairene if you have to leave your range on the long wall due to ventilation concerns, you might consider something like this (if you don't mind having a sink on your island). This wouldn't be my first choice but obviously ventilation requirements will drive some of your decisions. As for your question about the microwave drawer, I would just make sure it is near the refrigerator, since I primarily use my micro for reheating leftovers. If you use yours differently, think about what might be most convenient for your family. I personally prefer my microwave higher up (an under cabinet mount), but DH and I are tall and don't have to worry about children using it.

I‘m with you rebunky. ironic backstory… i came across this marble 9 years ago while looking for a marble remnant for the top of my sideboard. I fell in love with it and used it in a polished finish for the furniture. Whe we began plans for remodel, i asked my fabricator of he had any slabls of it , as id love to do the kitchen with it. He said he hasnt had this marble for a number of years, and nonwhere we checked had any. I then found the quartzite, which had these similar colors. The disaster happened. we behan looking for a replacment, but we werent finding anything. right before Christmas, my fabrcator called and said ” i just got 6 slabs of Namibian Sky marble. We went to go look and that was it. So, i guess what happened was a blessing in disguise, as what i really wanted from the beginning but couldn”t source , came to be after all. 🤷‍♀️ Thanks for the support rebunky! appreciate it and yes!!!…. i posted a thread looking for backsplash ideas. I came across your thread while researching MontBlanc. I love the slab I selected and it is the African one as well. I am seeing a lot of discussion about staining and etching. If you have this stone in your lovely kitchen, how has it worked with lemon juice and/or wine? The sample I brought home failed miserably. Was just the same as the marble sample. The fabricator assures me that it because it has not been sealed yet. But since I'm selecting something that looks like marble but is more durable, to see it perform identically to the marble is unsettling! This is going in a farmhouse kitchen that will get lots of abuse. I don't want to have to baby it or rush around behind everyone cleaning up spills.
