Will a Farmhouse Sink fit in an Ikea Akrum 30" Sink Cabinet?
Comments (15)Yes, I realize that. I meant here on the Houzz site - or perhaps on the IKEA Hacker's site. It would be great to see exactly how to adjust the non-apron sink cabinet to fit an apron sink. We have to do it nonetheless, so I might take pictures and post if I can't find anything else. Our sink is not as heavy as the 30" sink inserted into into a 30" cabinet, so the framing requirements should not be as stringent. Plus, the methodology there was to combine two cabinets together....See MoreWhat's the max size sink that will fit in a 30' sink cabinet?
Comments (12)As to your question about location of the drain hole - I have had both of the layouts you mentioned, and I prefer the hole in the middle back. I could set things in both sides of the sink and not cover the hole, and it was far enough back that the water from the tap didn't land directly on it (that is annoying because it splashes). I also found things washed down better, but that might have been a difference in the slope of the sink. Also think about what is going on under your sink. Is there anything special you want to do in the base cabinet that would require your plumbing to be in a particular location?...See More30 in Whitehaven Sink with Ikea Sektion Base Cabinet
Comments (20)I too want to give a shout out to Kimmy for her detailed instructions. I just installed a whitehaven following them. I will add this the curve for the cutout is 4" so a 4" hole saw on your drill will give you the perfect cut then you can use your circular saw up to the holes on the sides and bottom. I don't own a jig saw so I used the same hole saw that I got to cut my butcher block with a reveal (also 4" obviously). In addition to Kimmy I want to thank Joseph for recommending Pete's sink mount. I realize most on this thread have already installed using Kohler's instructions but Pete's sink mount makes getting everything in and level super easy and you can adjust up or down with the sink in place unlike Kohler's 2x4 method. This is an FYI for anybody that comes upon this thread later. Steve - Ikea sells a kit to attach a door to a drawer that has a template to drill the holes. I realize you don't need the hardware but it might be worth it for the template. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00280755/...See MoreNon-IKEA apron sink for IKEA cabinet? Advice and/or info please!
Comments (22)I'm just going to say this in case - the wide Domsjö is two bowl sink. It never came any other way. Sektion has standard sized drawer fronts. Buy an extra 36" wide taller drawer front just in case you need it - you can always send it back. Sektion and Akrum cabinets had different sizes of drawer fronts. Stop by the kitchen area and ask about issues with installing the Domsjö sink in a Sektion cabinet. The Domsjö should come with replacement metal bar for the front & bar edges. The front metal bar takes the place of the top bar on the front and the back. You might need to cut down the back panel to fit under the bar. We did a simple reinforcement of the cabinet by adding plywood across the back on the inside of the cabinet under the bar and then attached the official cabinet back to the ply. Given a choice, I would buy ANY other white farmhouse sink and undermount kit. Eventho it's hundreds more. In our case, the sink wasn't quite deep enough - there was a wide gap between the sink and the wall in the back that was plugged with two tons of caulk. In the end, I named the sink the Rain of Terror because it dripped water everywhere and rotted the Ikea wood counter. If you use someone else's sink in an ikea cabinet, know that you may need to cut the cabinet top back as shown in @sh's photo because a 36" wide undermount sink is 36" wide at the front or near to it. The sink maker has an undermount kit (usually) that amounts to metal bars with screws under the sink. The bars stretch across the cabinet from side to side. Then, use your "extra" drawer front and carefully cut it to fit the front....See MoreAMS
