NYC Trip-recommendations please.
Comments (13)I would not drive into the city if you can possibly avoid it. Nor would I stay in New Jersey, only to lose vast warehouses of time traveling back and forth. If you are planning to see lots of shows it makes sense to stay in or around Times Square, but if your focus isn't Broadway plays and musicals you should probably stay elsewhere-- I'd let your interests guide your hotel location. It's difficult to recommend a hotel without knowing what you'd like to spend. Just within a few blocks of each other on W. 44th St, for example, I can think of three hotels that span the price spectrum--- the Chatwal ($$$), the InterContinental($$). and the Hotel Mela ($), all within easy walking distance of most Broadway theatres. Affinia Hotels are a less expensive option (they're in several manhattan locations), and there is no dearth of fine hotels to choose from. If you like smaller boutique hotels the Lowell is a great one. We left NYC twenty years ago and still miss living there. I manage to get up a few times a year and there is always something new to see, hear, taste and enjoy. Hope you have a wonderful trip!...See MoreOT San Fran recommendations?
Comments (35)I live near SF. The place we go for brunch on really special occasions is the top of the Mark Hopkins Hotel at the top of Nob Hill (across the street from the Fairmont Hotel). It has a great view and a wonderfully amazing brunch -- the best I've ever seen and I have travelled a lot. For drinks, lunch or dinner, I would also recommend the revolving restaurant at the top of the Hyatt Embarcadero. I have taken out of town guests there several times. I don't remember much about the food but the view is wonderful. Walking across the Golden Gate Bridge is also fun (and still free, I think) (you will need a car or cab to get there, though, and getting a cab for the ride back could be tricky). If you decide to get a car (and San Francisco is not THAT hard to drive in) I would also recommend Guaymas restaurant in Tiberon or a stroll in Sausalito (across the Golden Gate Bridge from SF). Both have great views of San Francisco and are only a short drive from SF (assuming traffic is OK across the Golden Gate)....See MoreNYC Trip-Recommendations?
Comments (14)I visited in 2010 for the first time. My favorite memory is walking across the Brooklyn Bridge into the city. It's the first thing I thought of when I learned we were going! At the center, there was a man doing ink drawings ..I bought two..St Patrick's Cathedral and of course the Brooklyn Bridge. Both are framed and hang in the living room. We took a cab to the Brooklyn side and walked into the city, which made for some great photos. We also really enjoyed the Pedicabs/rickshaws. They are everywhere and made for a new and fun experience for us. The cab rides were waaay to scary for me, lol. We also loved Central Park and enjoyed a carriage ride through it. If you stay in Times Square, beware the character crew that appear to be willing to take pics with you but we had an unpleasant experience ( and scary for my little grand daughter). Some actually got into fights with one another over who got more tips. We stayed at The Millenium/Broadway in Times Square. We also got invited into GMA studio for the live show which was an unexpected treat after it started raining, lol. Do your research if time permits and find things interesting to you...most of all have fun! Just a word of advice...if you take the cabs, close your eyes till the ride is over..oye...See MoreNew Orleans Hotel Recommendations
Comments (3)I'm from the New Orleans area. If you want the best seafood there is (no kidding), you have to try the char-broiled oysters at Drago's. It is located in the Riverside Hilton. Marikay is correct about Cafe du monde and Central Grocery. The last time I was in NOLA, I went to get a muffaletta and found out the hard way that Central Grocery is not open on Sundays :( Here is a link that might be useful: Drago's...See More- 8 years ago
