Terri23...here's what we have so far: trim is painted throughout the house, downstairs all doors are Douglas fir to match the windows, upstairs all doors are painted same as trim. All windows, upstairs and down, are Doug fir with painted trim. We are still a work in progress, but here's a few photos of the effect. Hint: on many posts, if you click on the photo it will link you to more pictures if this option has been enabled by the poster. I encourage you to search for more postings by Jaymielo...she has some beautiful examples. Also, check out this thread that I linked below. FWIW, my DH was also skeptical about mixing, but we already had decided on red oak floors and Doug fir windows, so what then do you use for trim? One way or another, you'd have differing woods adjacent, either for the window trim/windows or the baseboards/floor. I think painting the trim ties it all together in a satisfying way and our different woods still compliment each other. Oh, and just to complicate matters, we have some black walnut thrown in to that mix, as well! I agree with lascatx. I have raised panel overlay on my perimeter, which is white, and the same raised panel overlay on my island, which is espresso. A separate section of my perimeter, which comprises the stove alcove and flanking cabinetry, is the same white as the other white cabs, but is full-flush with a bead, and raised panel doors. It all ties in beautifully, IMHO, because the sections all relate to each other. The Danby marble counters are the same, in an effort to pull it all together. Although I have that same slab marble behind the range, the b-splash behind the cabs flanking the range is the same tile as the rest of the b-splash behind the white perimeter cabs. Also pulling it together are glass-fronted double-stacked uppers in both perimeter sections, and the same drawer pulls and cabinet knobs throughout. So, like Lascatx says, "keep it related" and it can be gorgeous.

Beautiful doors--thanks for posting them! As I recall, the U.S. arts and crafts movement often preferred and used walnut because it was an "American" tree and wood, as opposed to oak which was commonly used in the craftsman movement in Britain. Regardless of historical usage, walnut is not a species one would want to pay for and then paint. For painting, one would seek a much cheaper wood and one with a closed grain, not an open grain. Staining and accentuating the beauty of the Walnut wood grain and color would be the preferred finish. Drop dead gorgeous doors in the right setting...

If you can forget the arched transoms next you will be back wanting to know how to do window coverings . I have no idea why anyone would have 13 exterior doors except in an apartment building. I have 6 counting 2 sliders and honestly have no idea how I would have double that. Maybe post a picture of the elevation and a floor plan just to make ssense to me. As for mixing IMO they should all be the same except for maybe the main front door which can be a statement piece depending on the style of the house.
