Mixing finishes on trim and doors - stain and paint
Comments (2)Good point, Annie, but now I have a question about your answer: No, we don't necessarily want to call attention to the doors, because we didn't think having them made and stained to match the cabinetry would call attention to them, since they would be along the same wall as the rest of the cabinetry...just sort of carrying on that stained cherry look...unless you are referring specifically to having attention called to them because of their opaque glass inserts. FYI, we are not considering stained doors without the glass inserts; they will be either stained with glass inserts or painted without the glass. Elaborate as you wish, and thanks....See MoreInterior Doors - Paint One Side -Stain Other Side
Comments (7)The convention is, you paint the edges and faces etc, the same colour as the trim in the room it opens into, and, as mentioned, stain surfaces visible in the kitchen, when the door is closed. As for the mixture of wood/mdf framing, why bother? If you're going to stain one side, that overrides the other concern- just prime and paint the dining room side you don't want to stain. MDF is only used for painted door jambs etc in place of 'real' wood because it's cheaper, doesn't have knots/flaws etc....See Moremixing wood finishes and interior doors
Comments (0)We bought a home that is 7 years old. It has inexpensive stained luan doors and stained woodwork. Nothing fancy. Is it a decorating no no to put up a painted chair rail or should we stay with the stained look? Also, aren't they making interior hollow core doors that can be stained, now? What is a source for those?...See MoreInterior door and trim. Paint or stain. Match windows or not?
Comments (4)That terra color probably makes sense on the exterior but doesn't seem to be a color you have on the interior. I would lean towards painting the door jambs white to match the casings and stain the doors themselves to match the floors....See Moreluckymom23
