I would ask your electrician if you could move the electrical box to an adjacent cabinet. You will lose a bit of space in that cabinet because the box must be enclosed but I’d prefer that to an odd counter. Worst case, the entire outlet could be in an adjacent cabinet with a small hole through which your fridge cord is drawn.

I was hoping that would work too but the electrician said no!

Here is a pic showing how far the door sticks out from the end of the cabinet. The blue has stainless under it. The contractor did offer to put an extra piece of molding to cover it.

Most (all?) of the bev fridges require a recessed outlet for flush install. We put our bev fridge outlet in the floor, worked fine.

That was one of the ideas that we wanted to talk to the electrician about but our contractor doesn’t think that is up to code.

the electrician said he can't or doesn't want to? He'd have to really prove to me that it couldn't be done. On the flip side, is there a fridge with a less prominent handle? Can this one be exchanged? When all else fails, you'll probably get used to the handle sticking out but I don't think I'd get used to the excessive granite overhang. Could make it more prone to breaking too. I'd re-visit the electrician. Hopefully a few KD's will chime in. Good luck!

Show us what cabinet is next to the beverage center and what is behind? Must be a way to put the outlet close by instead.

Sounds like both the contractor and the electrician made a huge mistake and now they aren't willing to eat the cost of making it right.

For the electrician to say he "can't" move the outlet over to the adjacent cabinet is most likely because he would have to do it at his expense rather than not having the ability or skill to move it.

Contractors and sub-contractors are experts at turning their screw-up's into an extra charge for you. Get on them. They should have pointed this out at the planning stage when they saw the outlet and the beverage fridge in the specs. Don't settle for their wonky fix.

It’s a simple fix. And your electrician is just being silly. And your contractor obstinate.

Who did the design work for your kitchen? They should have had the appliance specs so that electrical outlet would be on the plan’s with no weaseling from fools about it can’t be done.

It absolutely CAN be done. And it’s not even hard. You have a whole cabinet adjacent to the fridge in which the outlet can be located.

If you recess fridge further, would you still have clearance for the door to swing open?

Another observation, I would prefer door open to left to make easier use of when at island.

Check GE. They make a profile series w/flush handle and reversible door.

Here is another example of reversible door w/handle on top to avoid running into w/your set up. Whirlpool also looks like they make similar. Check w/your appliance supplier for options.

They have low profile boxes that would give you another inch. This is not a big deal to fix and whoever is in charge needs to step up and do it.

editing to explain..I mean the box the plug is in can be switched out for a shallow one if possible-would give you the inch you need without moving it.
