Comments (16)'The shapes of different cotinus varieties are really varied. Mine are red - royal purple, maybe? and they can't be said to have any shape at all. They send out branches in every direction, including along the ground - and take up a lot of real estate. Nothing can be planted around them, really.' Have to disagree with a last sentence. My Royal Purple cotinus planted at the back of the only 6' deep border, it's either limbed up or simply pruned every spring to 4' of the ground and it's a companions friendly if you remove all horizontal growth. It is an integral part of this 'large shrubs border' It flanked on one side by callicarpa 'Profusion' and sambucus 'Sutherland Gold' on another (too shaded and too green now, but nicely contrasts with cotinus in a spring. Also there are two hydrangeas Tardiva and physocarpus Diabolo. Six giants next to each other maybe sounds like too much, but it actualy works since they are planted 5-6' apart. They grow into each other, but overall whole group looks great because of the different foliage color and texture. All are vigorous, but prunable, so if I need to snap one stubborn branch or another it doesn't affect the whole picture. In front of this group I planted two layers of plants in a staggered pattern: hybiscus 'Lord Baltimor' (not a baby either), spireas, two peonies, caryopteris Worchester Gold (too small yet), daylilies and tall lilium davidii plus some daffodils in between. Overall starting from spring till the end of the season this group have something either blooming or otherwise interesting....See MoreWhat do you think about this bedding combo?
Comments (5)I have a chair in the room that I'm going to recover at some point. It's a winged back chair ... standard issue in the 80s, I think? LOL The walls are Sag Harbor Gray (BM). I think I'm going to order it. And I also think I'm okay if the background is ivory (description says white) because I like an ivory/white mix. Thanks for the input! I'll post pics when the room's complete. There are two windows flanking the bed and I'm going to put bamboo shades over them with white curtains, I think....See MoreWhat do you think of this fabric combo?
Comments (14)Thanks everyone. On my post about the bay window sill, soem people suggested that I do a top treatment running over and between the 3 windows to tie them together since I just tied them together at the bottom by doing a single sill/stool (and soon an apron). Someday (not soon) we will put a window seat in, probably at the same time put HW floors in and bookcases on each side. Copperbailey (I think) posted a beautiful swag treatment, so i was trying to find fabric. But now that the shades are up and almost all the casing is done (was just staining the last 2) I don't know if it needs any more fabric - what the room needs is artwork! I still want *something* (scarf or artwork) over the slider. The slider is 6ft, I have a sign but it's only 2ft long - I was thinking I* need something 3-4 ft long centered over the door?...See MoreWhat do you think of this color combo?
Comments (29)I can see the appeal, terriks, but I think the Platinum, while a lovely color, is too blue for your scheme. Rather than the color picking up the tones in the tile, I think it's putting the colors into the tile - both your shades are reflected in it in your photo - and I think a slightly warmer companion to the red would give you a more natural effect. Revere Pewter would be worth a look, and if it's still too taupe for you (it's paler and less brown than Rockport), take a look at Balboa Mist (also B. Moore), which is clearly gray, but warmer than Platinum. I think with the reflected colors in the tile, the warmer gray will be much prettier and more like mother-of-pearl, which is what I see in your tile....See Morekatmiller0
