Color Combos: Khaki and Tangerine
Pair Orange with a Wearable Neutral for the Right Splash of Color
I often believe that some of the most versatile color combinations are those that are both livable and wearable. Orange happens to be one of my favorite colors, but when it's described as tangerine it takes on a whole new connotation. This splashy hue is quite invigorating, but for my more classic style I love to see tangerine tempered by khaki and other neutral colors. Just think of this bold color as a tangy seasoning. Depending on the overall flavor of the design sometimes the space calls for more zest, while other times just a little dab will do it.
This living room turns up the heat with furniture and accessories in a citrus-y monochromatic palette, but it is the neutral hued walls that keep the scheme livable for most.
Bathroom furniture doubles as wall decor when painted in an exciting hue. If this happened to be a budget bath, this cabinet would have effectively stretched the homeowner's decorating dollars.
An eye-catching pair of armchairs punctuates this living room with vibrant color. Their shapes and color adds zeal to an otherwise conservative space.
Even the most color-averse individual can appreciate a hint of tangerine as long as its presence is versatile. Twin throws liven up neutral accent chairs in this conversation area, but can be removed when the dweller is in the mood for something more subtle.
Color enhances architectural details, too. A curved wall becomes an art form when highlighted in tangerine paint. With exception of the accents in the rug, the space still remains neutral yet interesting.
An earthy combination of tangerine and natural wood found in the furniture and window coverings creates an organic dining experience. When you add a hint of glitz from a chandelier, the room receives an upgrade without pretentiousness.
In the presence of a vastly neutral color base of khaki, camel, black, and white, this tangerine lamp remains front and center with its high shine and glowing personality.
