Help dating this chandelier?
Comments (10)I've seen similar fixtures dating all the way back to 1911, but this one isn't quite complete. There should be a ceiling mount. That would suggest this fixture has hung from a chain to that mount, and you'll find that type of pendant becoming very popular starting in the 20s. This type of fixture is very compatible with a 20s date. It would likely not have had a round globe in that style, but one like you already suggested, or a tulip style. That was a period where fancy glass was in vogue, so your replacements could be whatever you wish and still likely be appropriate. Previous to the 20s, most all of those types of electroliers were brass. Starting with the 20s, you will begin to see other metals incorporated....See MoreWow! Comments (14)Thanks, actually I almost purchased that same light for the dining room, but instead bought another JCP chandelier for about $10 more. My kitchen & dining room are open and across from each other...would it look silly to have 2 very similar chandeliers hanging across the room from each other? I'm wanting to do a couple of pendant lights over the peninsula and maybe one over the sink, but that still leaves a light fixture for the center of my kitchen. I will also have recessed lighting, so I guess I could actually just do a ceiling fan with no light kit in the center of the room...I know what you're thinking, a ceiling fan?? But I'm extremely hot natured and I think I might really enjoy having it in the kitchen. What do you think? IF not the ceiling fan, what about a pot rack? Would that look goofy hanging in the center of the room or must you always hang it OVER something...like an island? THANKS! Comments (82)Fishes: Yes, we do have an eating area. It is narrow, only about 10' wide so we are placing our table with chairs there with a banquette against the wall. There is also a basment door and the door to the back staircase in that area so wall space is limited. These old houses are charming but can be complicated. I am toying with adding glass front display cabinets above the banquette so that I can get my display somewhere. I have a large collection of blue and white transferware that is displayed on shelves in our soon to be gone butler's pantry :(. With the lack of wall cabinets in the L I think having display is tough unless we put it in the sit down eating area of the kitchen. Can't wait until I can get my husband to show me how to post our layout so that people can see what I am trying to explain. I agree that your baking area more than makes up for the lack of wall cabinets. I am going to try to get out to dutchwood next week for a visit and a better idea of all the possible cost and upcharges.Have you gone there yet?...See MoreLars
