help! ican't make a decision on finishes!
Comments (9)This is a tough one. We don't live in your house to know it like you do, and would have a hard time deciding what you'll like best! For me the soapstone can be a little stark on white and it's done a lot, which is something I like to avoid. But it's still classic, pretty, and doesn't have to be farmhouse or cottage. I've seen some very elegant white and soapstone kitchens...Somehow it seems to go with the inset mirror you're planning to me. The marble sounds gorgeous. I don't think you're crazy at all to consider it instead of limestone. I happen to love light on white counters for a very quiet, elegant look. But is it what you want? What do you want to walk in and see? Dark counters or light? It's funny that I had dark counters planned for a long time for my kitchen, but an overall lighter scheme kept appealing to me. When I finally came down to deciding between the two, I thought the lighter room was one where I would like to cook or just sit and relax, where the darker, more dramatic colors seemed more demanding, and more 'in your face.' Not as serene. But that was my process. I think you need to try to do some envisioning and see what would thrill you more and what touches your heart...Is the right feeling in your gut. I also don't think that quartz or granite, either one, could be 'wrong' or boring. I also love grays and think the Caesarstone in grays could be formal without being too dressy...Complementing and not competing with the dining room. (You'd want to make sure it would coordinate nicely and have some contrast, probably, to the island color.) My countertops are pretty boring, I suppose, but they suit my purposes that way. Other things are more showy and they have a quieter supporting role....See MoreAny pics blue granites with bling?Blue flower, blue volga, arctic
Comments (23)I used Volga Blue. I too have a couple of skylites and also a covered patio outside so I don't get a lot of "direct" light however my kitchen window in front of the sink is quite large and I have plenty of lights incl. under cabs. Volga looks beautiful lights on or off. I don't have anything "blue" in my home - but after going to just about every slab yard around (at least 10) I chose volga blue after seeing those subtle abalone-like markings within the the black. It actually showed some depth when looking at it. When walking in the room it reads as black however once your up close you see the beautiful markings in it. It looks fabulous with my white marble island. As someone who changes/moves things around from place to place in my house/kitchen, I did not want a lot of "movement" in my counters. I have different colored dishes, place mats, etc. and everything looks great with it and was thrilled the second it was installed! Could not be happier. If you are looking for something that actually shows/reads blue when you walk into the room - this is not the right choice for you. Hope this helps...See MoreGranite questions labrador blue, volga blue
Comments (11)I completely understand. I think I could've written your post. I may have not too long ago. I also had 8 years of dreams of having Blue Pearl granite with my natural cherry cabinets and it was just about a done deal...until this past summer when we got serious about our remodel and I first crossed paths with Labradorite Blue Australe and Galactic Blue (sister of Blue volga only harder to get) granite. .They were amazing and I was hooked on them. They were like granite crack. Then I learned that the price of the Blue Australe in the granite world was like the price of a Masarati in the car world. Not just any Masarati, but a 2013 one of a kind convertible with hand sewn leather seats...well the Galactic Blue was a bargain compared to that. Well, almost but it was a dark Labradorite blackish high shine granite too. Also, then it seemed to me the granite yard was practically giving the Blue Pearl. LOL, after countless trips to the granite yard...over an 1 hour + in each direction, reality hit me. I don't live in the Labradorite Blue Australe kitchen cabinet counter world> I live in a "modest" cape cod home in my life and while I loved it, I walked away from it just like I walked away from the blue Maserati convertible I saw a couple of years ago while walking down the Champs-lyses in Paris a couple of years ago when we went for our anniversary. Not necessarily happy, but glad to have had it cross my path! Really, I live the world of messy countertops and kids that don't have the ability to appreciate the piece of art I was planning on draping in my kitchen. I ended up having dark green Costa esmeralda put in the kitchen and even though my kitchen is not done yet, I can bear the maintenance...and the owner of the granite yard made me super happy and had an unbelievable faultless remnant of super rareLabradorite Blue Australe that he was willing to part with so that I could put it in the half bath downstairs adajacent to the living area. I am beyond happy. The fabricator came over two nights ago to check on the granite and dropped off my sink cut out from the half bath that they finished off and gifted to me. I've put it on a metal round platform that I'd been using as nightstand for years. Cathy725, the level is $$$$$$$ and both are high maintenance granites. By that I mean, lots of work to make them shine all the time. But when they shine, they are really beautiful. My granite yard just got some slabs of BIG FlowerLabradorite Blue Australe in...it's $165 a square yard plus fabricator costs..I posted pictures in my other posts on here... This was my journey... Comments (4)the pictures are dark..it's hard to get ideas as well, because there is a lot of stuff around. Generally, I think you could work with your cabinets...maybe take one section for glass doors, or paint a section, or paint a significant number of the uppers[2 tone kitchens are rightfully getting popular].....can you tell us the woodspecies and how the finish is wearing-it looks good ...how about a close up shot. Break your goals down logically-You want a lighter ambience?...counters..backsplash...glass doors...You want better bases?.... aftermarket pullouts-YES-but is this needed in ALL cabinets?? some of those things can be done by homeowner...some may need handyman expertise......I would start with a few rather than ALL. I see a pantry-is it maximum efficiency for you? I see a raised bar-how about a single level when you do counters?-that alone can really transform things. I think your cabinets are beautiful actually....See MoreColleen
