One night, while brushing my teeth in front of our large plate mirror, I noticed it looked a little off. On closer inspection I realized one of the clips had come away from the wall and the whole mirror was on the verge of coming off the wall! The clips had been installed with heavy duty plastic anchors, and the weight of the mirror over time had caused the drywall to eventually give way. We ended up remodeling the bathroom and installed a large, framed mirror using a heavy duty cleat hanger (Hangman is one brand) which is perfect. The cleat hanger is two long pieces of metal, one of which is attached to the wall; if the mirror is less than 16" wide I recommend trying to have at least one screw in a stud and use toggle bolts for the other screws. The other piece of metal is attached to the frame of the mirror. The two pieces of metal hook onto each other to securely attach the mirror to the wall. (We used this same type of cleat hanger to attach a custom stainless steel backsplash over our range in our kitchen; we had stainless steel wrapped around a large piece of plywood to add depth and dimension to the backsplash.) When we remodeled our second bathroom, we decided to keep the plate mirror, but used extra clips and toggle bolts as needed to make certain it wasn't going anywhere!

I tend to choose mirrors over art. I like the way they play with light in our little cottage and reflect the outside views. I can count art on one hand, but I can't the mirrors! Mustang, your wall reminds me of something we did in our daughter's room. I started with them different finishes, but I ended up painting them all the same shade of white. It bounced the light beautifully. (BTW, I love looking at pics but am scared to death when it comes to sharing. This has always been our "we'll only be here awhile" house, so I've decorated with whatever I can find for pennies instead of what I want. Read: hodgepodge!) In our living room I've actually lost track of how many different mirrors we've used for a little while then moved. That room has great morning light, and I just can't help but fill it with mirrors. This was taken before everything was in the room, but...

Your little girl's room is just darling. I love how you've made her name so colorful above the window... it picks up the colors in her bedding. One thing you might want to do is put some window film over the top of the window, above the existing curtains. You can get ones that look just like a stained glass window. Or, you can use a sun blocking film, if you prefer. Another thing you can do is paint the upper part of the window with Gallery Glass, to create your own version of a stained glass window. A third option is to do this, only instead of doing it with a valance, as pictured here, attach full-length curtains this way. Then use tiebacks to open them, and unhook the tiebacks at night to close them, similar to what you have. They also make arched window blinds (http://www.burmeisters.net/missy.htm). This is an inside view. I currently have faux vines around it to help a little. Bear in mind that I plan to paint the kitchen a color similar to SW Copper Mountain over Christmas vacation and those checked curtains are gone. This is an exterior view I love the idea of a roman shade but how expensive would it be? I did consider getting a sheet of luan cut to size and getting my very talented sister to paint a mural on it.
