window cover for arched window

I am hoping to get some suggestions of how to cover the top half of this window. We just bought this house and this will be my 4 yr olds room. Right now she sleeps with black out roller shades down and in our new house as you can see her room will be getting a lot of light with this arched window. Any suggestions of photos if you have a similar window? (this is the photo of the current owners decor)

Your little girl's room is just darling. I love how you've made her name so colorful above the window... it picks up the colors in her bedding.

One thing you might want to do is put some window film over the top of the window, above the existing curtains. You can get ones that look just like a stained glass window. Or, you can use a sun blocking film, if you prefer.

Another thing you can do is paint the upper part of the window with Gallery Glass, to create your own version of a stained glass window.

A third option is to do this, only instead of doing it with a valance, as pictured here, attach full-length curtains this way. Then use tiebacks to open them, and unhook the tiebacks at night to close them, similar to what you have.

They also make arched window blinds (http://www.burmeisters.net/missy.htm). I am not recommending that source... it's just the first one I found.

My parents had a house with a window just like that in the living room. They wound up getting an arched fan blind (didn't open and close) to fill in the upper part of the window and regular blinds below. I think it was Duette honeycomb.

If you go with arched curtains and rod, they'll need to be custom made and not cheap. I'd go with a rod above the arch, under the molding, like in the 3rd pic above. If you want privacy at night, sheers won't do it. Sheers offer privacy in the daytime, but none at night. Have the curtains stop a couple of inches before the sconce's. It'll look nicer to have some wall space showing between and not butting up to. Not sure how much space is between the window and the sconce's, but if you want to close them at night, there doesn't look to be enough stackback room, so much of your window might be covered when they're open. Something to consider.

Hey There: When it comes to eyebrow shape windows you can do bottom up top down operating blinds. The blinds will go up where the arch starts (the arch itself will not be covered) but in your situation there is no problem with light and privacy. The beauty is that you can raise the blinds from the bottom and still be able to enjoy the view...all blinds will be inside mount installation...

Ho much do you want to spend? Arched window custom coverings lean expensive. If you are willing to cover the window partially with drapes, especially if they were sheers, you could use drapes. So horizontally, you will have slightly less "window" than you have now.

@Ely M Beautiful inside too! Gorgeous floors. Love those windows & would be a shame to hide any of the features of them on inside. I’m guessing windows are centered on the wall - looks off in picture but guessing that’s angle. I’ve never seen angled rods as @threers suggests. I also think any inside mount blinds would be custom & $$$$ due to shape & I don’t think outside mount fits these windows. I would go with drapes with the rod just above highest point on center window & with panels that split in middle & pull half to each side. I see the vent at lower right so you may need to use shorter length that ends just below sill. Even though the other window just like this one is evidently in another room, if you want to cover it at night, use same kind of drapes so the view is the same from street & the back side of drapes should be white. BTW, love the hanging light too!

I have two windows like the one you pictured--one is in the dining room, the other is in our guest bedroom. Both windows face west, and get full sun exposure all year. I first had a sun-blocking window film applied, then I put arch window blinds in each window (like writersblock's parents). There was still too much light in the bedroom, so I cut a piece of blackout drapery lining a little larger than the arch window, and stapled it to the inside curve of the molding. Instant darkness! I did have to add a curved drapery rod with a sheer curtain to hide the blackout lining, but it solved the problem. HTH

I think you can get the honeycomb shades now in light blocking materials, but you'd still a problem around the edges.

I purchase custom, moveable arch shades from this company:

You can get them light blocking and the ends sit in a track so the light doesn't leak around them much at all. I liked them because they open and close.

They are not, however, inexpensive.
