Comments (9)In addition to the downdrafts have you looked into the units that have pop up ventilation? The CFM's are higher. Thermador, GE and Dacor are just a few of the ones available. Dacor has an internal cabinet blower that's 600 CFM and they also have 2 units with remote blowers that are 600CFM and 1000CFM. I had a Thermador gas cooktop for 20 years and we never had a problem with the raised ventilation. My current Dacor has the 600 CFM unit with the remote blower. I also have a GE with a raised ventilation and internal blower at my vacation house. We didn't have any issues with the ventilation effecting the heat or the flame from the gas burners. While an overhead hood has a greater capture ability if you're not stir frying or searing fatty meats on an 18,000 BTU burner daily then you won't have any problems. We were concerned when we installed our first unit that the ceiling over the cooktop would yellow or become covered with grease. Neither happened. We usually grill our steaks outside and we sit fry a couple of times a month and the raised system works for us. Since you're already experienced the Jenn Air I think you'll be happy with the increased efficiency of the new units....See MoreNeed Comments on Electric downdraft cooktops
Comments (11)As downdraft ventilation schemes and implementations go, this Best model is clearly better than down flow at the counter level. But as expected from cooking plume dynamics, there is still significant failure to capture as revealed in their schlieren imagery. (At least they bother providing some, unlike many suppliers.) I would place it in the somewhat-better-than-nothing category. For modest cooking temperatures, particularly at the rear burners, this device obviously helps. Wokking on a front burner at the threshold of peanut oil smoke temperature will surely overpower the attempt by the device to capture the plume flow. If full cooking odor removal is desired without use of conventional exhaust ventilation systems, supplementation with a window exhaust fan may help, but note that any grease that condenses on the walls and fabrics before removal from the residence will take a long time to loose its odor. kas...See MoreReplacing Downdraft Electric Cooktop
Comments (6)Thanks for the replies, everyone. The wife read comments somewhere that people had problems with the connection on one of them, but I was never able to figure out what the actual problems were. I found an installation manual for the other cooktop I found that was compatible, and I didn't see anything that would lead me to believe it will be too complicated. I ordered that one and will get it in next week....See More
