I think the confusion is because the topic is Moni's perspective and the post is from her daughter's perspective. So it's a story about Moni's granddaughter as told by her mother.

I assume the child was either blowing on her injured knee or was 'huffing/puffing' from the pain.

I think she was blowing on her cut knee. I remember my mother used to do that after putting iodine on a cut, so maybe Allison thinks you need to blow on a cut.

I think the question we're all hoping for an answer to is what Allison was doing when she said that. Sighing? Farting? Blowing on a cut? What caused Allison's mom to ask her what she was doing?

But I also think that Moni was indicating that the phrase itself was a funny comment for an 8 year old (or anyone else) regardless of what she was doing. Just my guess.
