Comments (22)Thanks! That's a good idea. I'll have to get some of this years photos together for an update. Yeah Pete, I'm in Patriot Indiana (the middle of nowhere) about two and a half hours from Columbus. The hill side drainage is great except for the top soil washing down the hill leaving rocks and clay with the occasional low spots of great soil. There's also springs of water that gush out during rainstorms from all the water coming down the hill. It is a fun and interesting landscape to work with. Pete, are you a member of the ACS (American Conifer Society)? There's a conifer weekend happening in Columbus next week the 14th and the 15th. Two days of touring great private gardens and a few public gardens in the Columbus area. The evenings wrap up with stuffing your face with fellow coneheads. There's sometimes an auction with cool plants for sale too. The deadline for registration was the 5th but I'm sure that they could squeeze you in. I think the membership is $35 a year. If you want the info, PM me and I'll email it to you. Would be cool to see you there. If not, no pressure. I'm not the most social person but I have fun when I push myself to go....See MoreDo you have a complete Alphabet A - Z?
Comments (16)1. ,but then I'm not as obsessed as most of you all. Phil 2. only have about 70 kinds and don't forsee adding any more - well maybe a few. SquireJohn 3. I bought it for my neighbor. It does fairly well in the heat. BKay 4. Found an X-Rated at a sale at a home in 2010 that completed the alphabet for me.--Paul in MN 5. I'm missing one for Q,U,X and Y. I don't have anything on my wish list with these letters either. Scott A lot of halos are all shined up and in place, like we've all been to confession and are free of sin for a few moments in time. Nothing wrong with having this method of choosing just one little teeny tiny hosta because it has a certain letter to begin its name. You have so many hosta, why not think about remembering them alphabetically. It is a good way to fall asleep at night, after you've been outside with the flashlight looking for slugs, and it beats counting sheep. Alphabetically speaking, I can try to remember all 69 plants (delivered and potted SO FAR) by alphabet, and envision what each looks like. I hate to try to hold the name tag up where I can read it in the photos I take. My camera always shakes. Sort of like the teacher first day of school trying to put names with faces, keep trying, remember the problem kids first, then the good kids, the smart kids, the rest last. Or, I've discovered I can tell the gold guys apart more readily if I group them all together. Then the lanceolates, which I have a surprising number of those. I was also looking at the AHS judging classification for hosta, and that might help describe a hosta by noting which group it falls into for judging. Sort of off topic here, but to me it is all a part of the alphabetical organization of plants....See MoreI swear, my wife made me do it!
Comments (27)I guess My wife qualifies as an enabler. I had decided to let all my citrus trees die when both my kumquat trees died in a 3F windstorm that blew my cover off the trees. I had decided to dump the 3 Sweetlee tangerine trees (for rootstock). Jean talked me out of it. 3 month later I was offend 2 rescue Meyers that I accepted and nursed back to health. Later a friend, ,Cory, sent me 2 seed grown Fukushu Kumquat trees and a Meiwa kumquat tree. Fukushu #1 ( Fortunella Obovata ) Fukushu #2 ( Fortunella Obovata ) Meiwa #1 ( Fortunella Crassifolia )Meiwa #2 and Meiwa #3 just grafted 7-19-16 on US897 rootstock. My wife even held the light on the plant....See MoreThe Devil Made Me Do It, but I'm putty in its hands
Comments (5)I don't pay enough attention to mine. I've had it a long time. Every once in a while I look for it in its overgrown bed and it has moved a few more feet. I have never seen a flower. I'm not saying it hasn't flowered. I just haven't seen it....See Moresteve duggins(Z6a) - Central Ohio
