Is there a problem with painting with matte finish over eggshell?
Comments (4)Sis, I saw in your other post in home decorating that it had only been a week since you painted when the burnishing occurred. Faron will know more about this than I do, but since latex paint takes around a month to finish "curing" (hardening), it seems likely that it would be more prone to burnishing in that first month. I seem to remember someone else having this problem with moving furniture into a newly painted room, though the paint didn't seem so burnish-prone later on. Still, I tend to think of flat/matte finishes as being for looking pretty in rooms no one touches...not for "real life"....See MoreBehr Satin Finish Paint @ Home Depot
Comments (22)The Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware fell in love with BM paint and thus, they will swear there is no better, regardless. Remember there are a lot more of them out there than there are people who chose to stay with traditional furnishings. I have had no issues with Behr. I have only had a couple issues with SW and BM and that is they never seem to be able to get the color right the first time. I love Pratt Lambert the best. I get the color I wanted. I get the quality I wanted. It is easier for me to shop with the BM people due to proximity but over the years, (since I like to paint at least every 2 years), I have used a lot of paint. Some great paint for me has also been the Olympic/Olympia (whatever it is that Lowe's sells). Having said all that, we covered our gold public area of Cracker Bitz (Lowe's) with one coat of Behr's (Toasted Wheat). Sometimes I think it is related to where you buy the paint, just like the former poster who was not pleased with Ellen Kennon paints. I rarely if ever have a paint that does not go on well, because we clean the walls and mostly prime them (but in the case of the Behr, we did not prime since colors were so close), and I might be disappointed in the colors but I have pretty good results with paint. Back to the priming story. We had an area by our toilet that had to be primed and sanded five times. Painters could not imagine why because they could not see any reason. Later I learned from the tile guys that some problem had occurred with some of the demolition crew taking out my toilet and they had gotten motor oil on the wall which they "thought" they had cleaned. Yes, it was not showing so they "thought" they had cleaned it but the grease was not absorbing the paint and it cost me about $100 extra for that small area because of their "thoughts" on the situation....See MoreHelp us pick our Finish our Basement project
Comments (13)We have a very similar berber carpet in our basement family room but it has small flecks of blue in it! We didn't go with blue paint because I couldn't find a blue that was light enough to be in the basement but had the look I wanted. Instead we have a beautiful Pratt and Lambert paint called Havana Cream on the walls, the ceiling is lighter and we have a blue paterned ottomon and lots of blue in our art and accessories. By the way we love the look and function of the carpet. It looks great after 5 years and lots of kid and pet abuse. Even survived a nasty orange soda experience!...See MoreWhat finish of White Dove on cabinets- semiglss, eggshell, satin?
Comments (12)I chose Aura White Dove satin for my 30 year old dark stained cabinets and primed with an oil base primer first. Just a touch of grain shows through which is the look I wanted. I love how smooth they feel with just the slightest hint of sheen to reflect light. I do think it's personal preference b/c I received different answers at the three BM stores I frequent. The people at each store did say to mix up the paint finishes within a room. So I'll use a different sheen for the walls. I'm using Ben eggshell White Dove for a storage closet and I like the way that rolls on too....See Morepaintguy22
