Need help in mouldings paint transition -Urgent!
Comments (4)You're right, this looks wrong...like somebody ran out of paint. The problem is that the contractor installed a nice transition, but for a situation where the stringers and the baseboard were all the same color. If you wanted that colored molding, it would have been better for the baseboard molding to continue straight over to the front of the first stair. At this point, I would vote for painting the baseboard the same color as the stringers. In the photo you have dark stairs, 2 colors of floor tile, and another color for baseboard molding; that's a little too much going on for my taste, and painting the baseboard molding would reduce the "competition."...See Morebaseboards height transitions
Comments (24)There are so many thing I'd rather do with my life than vacuum all my baseboards every week. My house isn't even 4000 sqft, but that's probably 15 minutes out of every week. That's 13.5 hours a year of vacuuming baseboards! I can TRY to get a housekeeper to. I'm not a housekeeping perfectionist, but finding a good one is crazy hard, and you're lucky if she does it for more than three years once you find her ("until the kids are out of college"; "until the kids are out of preschool and I go back to work full time"--then that happens, and you're out. :P. Or the family moves. Or she retires.) Then you're searching 6 months for a GOOD replacement. It takes me her first 3 months of cleaning, minimum, to recoup that time....See MoreMixing baseboard trim and door casing sizes
Comments (2)When I moved into my current place, I had the same problem set. I actually did choose to replace all of my base molding throughout (yes, even in the closets), but kept all my original door casing. I have a variety of ceiling heights throughout the space and, while a crown treatment wasn't an option given my rooflines, I wanted to make sure that my base treatment created harmony throughout all the spaces and flowed without distraction. It gives the same level of finish and polish everywhere, which is a uniformity I wanted. I just made sure that it would coordinate well with my existing door casing (and my windows also have just an under-sill treatment like yours - no casing around the sides or across the top). It was one of the first projects I did, and I've really loved how it turned out. I did the 5.25" flat-sided ogee-top profile and it's worked out great as my style has filled in other parts of the plan around it....See MoreBaseboard style selection
Comments (1)Flat is more modern than your examples. I'd do (I did) 5.5" flat base. Derek Hurd Gravitas, Inc. 112 E 33rd St. Garden City, ID 83714 208.367.1184 www.gravitaslc.com...See MoreUser
