I need a few low growing, winter dormant gingers such as globbas or curcumas. Topping my wish list is curcuma khymer orange. To trade I have globba schomburgkii, curcuma figi, kaemperfia gilbertii, kaempeferia rotunda raven, kaempferia silver spot, hedychium angustifolia peach, hedychium kewense, hedychium daniel weeks, heliconia rostrata, heliconia jacquinii, heliconia red yellow gyro, costus spicata, costus purple stem, alpinia nutans, alpinia purpurata pink, alpinia purpurata red, lots of bananas, bromeliads, aroids, cannas etc. If you have an uncommon low growing ginger let me know what your looking for, possibly we can work something out as I have been collecting for years now.

It needs a bigger pot. But I sugguest you plant it in the ground for summer and dig it up before the first freeze. It will multiply much faster in the ground. Put it in a 3-5 gallon pot when you dig it up. Unless you keep it very warm and give it lots of light it will go dormant. If it does do not water unless it's very dry and then only sparingly. Gingers do not get bushy. They always form a single stalk. It will spread side ways but one stalk at a time. Yours looks good for a years growth in that small pot.

I'd wait until spring...it is just entering it's dormant period... It LOVES water...so sounds good. and It will get,depending on conditions, around 4-5 feet tall, at least mine did.

There are lots of different varieties of gingers some are more cold hardy than others. We need to know what zone you are in and what variety of ginger you are wanting to grow.
