Foyer lighting dilemma

Starting a remodeling project that includes the two story entry as pictured (previous owner’s decor). We love the EF Chapman Darlana large lantern and are looking for ideas for coordinating flush mounts (1st and 2nd floor landings) and sconce fixtures for the stairway.

Not sure that size at 36" tall and 24" wide will work of your foyer. That means the lantern in that size is as tall as a kitchen counter before the hanging chain begins.

IMO before I spent that much money on a lantern I would scrape the pattern off the ceiling.

Also I would not install a nickel finish if you expect the lantern to make a statement.

If there is anywhere to use recessed lighting it would be your kitchen. Also add under cabinet LED's. Once those are done, you may find the addition of 3 pendants here a bit of overkill. As for the ceiling fan, is it needed in warm weather? Fan lights rarely serve as room illumination except for getting in when its totally dark. They are completely inadequate for anything else. Looks like you're sampling some paint colors by the stairs. Don't go for the paint until the lighting is completed so you get true colors. If you key paint to current lighting you'll be disappointed with it when the upgraded lights go in. I think a pair of chandeliers for each of your dining areas will be a big help. Some uplights under plants flanking the TV could be a nice touch. You may want to consider unloading the mantel of its clutter and having sconces installed on that wall. The windows seem awfully low, so a "fool-the-eye" window treatment that uses shades and panels to visually extend the window onto the wall above it will be a big improvement to your overall look. I like the idea of a lighter wall color, just make sure it blends with the tile. Your trim and doors seem to be two different shades of white, I would make them the same color. Will the entry table stay? Is this a separate foyer or combined with a living room? It'd be nice to see the whole area in context. Agree the Sputnik is too modern. What you have now is more of an up-light shining towards the ceiling, which brings the focus to the wonderful cobwebs up there-lol! Cleaning that fixture and changing those light bulbs are not fun, I know from experience. I would look for something that will disperse light better and not be such a dust collector. :)

True about the LED bulbs. And I agree about hating an off-center chandelier. That would drive me absolutely nuts! I was just on the Aladdin light lift website and they make lifts that are "remote mount." That might work in this situation. My contractor is looking into it.

We need help deciding on what type of chandelier for our tall sloped ceiling and what to hang on the walls of our foyer. You can see the chandelier from the foyer. It needs to provide enough light but not be too “fancy“ for my husband or too bulky because we want it to not interfere with the view from the foyer through to the back yard. Our plan: -foyer railings stained darker -walls painted in both rooms after the new fixture is installed. It’s a very neutral color now. -possibly have foyer cabinet painted or grey washed -add something above doors? Above wooden flag? -change doors? -change what is on top of foyer cabinet Any suggestions are appreciated. Sorry I can’t figure out how to unedit some of the pictures that were marked up. And our youngest kiddo likes to play with boxes of tissues so that last pic has tissues all over. :)

I just purchased a new chandelier, a new foyer lantern and sconces this week. I bought the metal twist lantern from Ballard Designs in the darker finish in the large size. I paired it with the E.F. Chapman Flemish sconces.
