I put a sheet between the bigger pot and the nursery pot he’s in to try and put a barrier between the roots and the outside air so he won’t get root damage if freezes occur will that help ?

I have one for -say 20- years in the gardenground and it does fine. Survives all Dutch weather and florises every year.

A home depot that is selling things in early March Z8 would most likely be for indoors., It sounds/looks like yucca elephantipes. Hardy to zone 9. What gardengal said. Especially it being so young the cold can effect it much easier.

Not necessarily true :-) My local HD is selling all manner of fresh, hardy landscape stock for spring. But unless there is a label identifying the species (or you check with your HD for details), it's all a bit of a guess on our part :-))

One way to rule it out is to look at the stem/trunk.

The Trunk will let me know if it is healthy enough to be outside ? @matt

no no it'll help possibly with an ID..

If it stays outside it gets much brighter light. It will look better in time.

Yeah they have trunks I’m thinking it’s one of the yuccas that grow a little taller than the Adams needle ones but , I’ll have to see when it grows more , so the 30 degree nights but 45 degree days won’t kill it ?@matt

45 is the high? I wouldn't leave it outside when it's below 36-37 until there is a positive ID . Even if it's inside for a few days until it warms up? I know mine grow when it's in the 50's

Yeah I just put it in my home today , it was raining ice so I didn’t want it to get ice damage , I think he should be okay for a while next to my Eastern window , atleast until it warms up which should be about 2 weeks.

Yes and the growth habit. Do you have a pic of the tag? What area of HD did you pick it up from? houseplant section? outdoor garden center?

I got it from the section of the indoor plants but the large ones, around where they keep palms and fiddle leafs , the tag is labeled shrub and it says instructions for planting it in the ground with hardiness information

What zone is it hardy to? It sure doesn't look like yucca filamentosa, we can rule that one out. Yucca alofolia or Yucca gloriosa aka spanish dagger could be close

I’m guessing it might not show to clear what variety because it’s a fairly young plant

On the tag the hardiness zone wasn’t listed only the temperature it is hardy to , which is 30

So 30 F would be zone 9b - 10a LOL we can now rule out filamentosa for good haha. JMO but by the pictures you've posted 96% sure it is still Yucca Elephantipes (common Yucca houseplant) with upright growth shown in pic2. None the less they are still a nice yucca. I guess give it a few months n check back :) good luck with it

This is an update of the yucca above , shes been in the house for the majority of the time I’ve had it so I recently moved it outdoors because The leaves started to turn white and crack and eventually dry out so First I watered it (soil was very dry ) and left it in the house for about a week and half after . then I placed it outside because I thought it needed more sunlight and it’s still abit chilly but manageable, but now it seems the leaves continue to dry up and then crack with white , any help ? Could it be because it needs to be repotted badly? I haven’t repotted it since I got it .. I think it’s a yucca gloriosa

The whiting and cracking started when it was indoors so I don’t think the outdoors played a factor in the changing of the leaves

It looks like it has been struggling with light, how often have you watered it?
