Please help me save my succulent!

Hey guys,

about 1 week ago, my boyfriend purchased a ceramic bowl with a devils tongue cactus and a succulent (I think an Echeveria?) for my desk at work. despite my protests, he purchased one without a drainage hole.

I have not watered the plants since i received it, but noticed the succulent‘s lower leaves are starting to wrinkle and shrivel (this started within a day or two of bringing the plant home) . The lower layer of leaves all feel mushy. The top leaves feel firm and look healthy.

i dont know much about succulents so I’m hoping someone can take a look and tell me whats wrong with this little guy (or if there’s even anything wrong with it at all). Google searches turn up either “overwatering” or “underwatering” so I’m very confused. I don’t see any changes in the cactus.

The first photo is of the pot right after I got it, remainder of photos are from today (about 1 week after the first photo)

any help would be greatly appreciated as I am a newbie at succulent gardening.

Thanks!
