When my late husband would do things like this, we'd always say "Helpful Harry strikes again!". Maybe NOT so helpful....

That exact,same thing happens to me. I also will put something out to remind me to take it when we go out the next day, and guess what, it’s gone the next day. And also, when I empty the dishwasher in the morning, I like to leave out 2 plates for supper as our cupboards are really cold this time of year. As soon as he gets home he puts them away (even before he takes off his coat) and we eat right away.

I think a spouse who tidies is better than one who steps over messes without ever noticing or picking up a thing.

I agree with Fun2bhere! I would much prefer an overly tidy spouse. Mine isn't a slob but it would never occur to him to put away a plate or throw tissue paper away.

He would put away something in the fridge if he thought I forgot it, though, but usually he asks.

I think my DH is a typical male as far as lacking interest in home decor. As a young married, I noticed that a friend's DH was very interested in choosing colors, rugs, furniture, etc. I mentioned to her how nice it must be to have his active participation in decisions. She rolled her eyes!

Chisue, the eye roll was appropriate. DH rarely has a strong decorating opinion and that works for us. When we bought this house, I bought new living room furniture. I had the decorator from a local store come over and measure, then he set up about three groupings at the store that he thought fit within my descriptions of what I wanted - seating, lamps, tables. I insisted DH go to the store with me when making my decisions to sit for size and comfort - he went reluctantly.

But we walked in through those doors and he turned into someone I didn't know. Out of the blue (or had he been watching HGTV?) he was questioning colors, fabrics, completely vetoed the hobnailed leather sofa that was my first choice. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, he became a stranger right in front of me that day.

Typically he's more like my SIL's husband. She'd sent their dining room table out to be refinished and he hadn't mentioned or questioned it being gone. For several days. Finally, downstairs in the family room one evening, she asked him to go up and bring her something from the table. He returned laughing hard, he really had not noticed it was gone. It is not a small piece, with the leaves will seat 14.

I've had to banish DH from the kitchen when I'm cooking as I'll pull out a spoon or a bowl and when I go to use it, it's been washed already!

My hubby is also OCD ... a few winters ago I was craving hot chocolate. My husband was in the kitchen when this craving came over me. I joined him there and after a short search found the one last packet of hot chocolate mix we had.

I took a coffee cup off the shelf, poured the powder into the cup and started heating water in the tea kettle.

I stepped about two feet away for a couple of minutes. The kettle whistles and I return to the counter and find my coffee cup gone. I get a bit closer to figure out where it had gone and stepped in a pile of chocolate powder on the floor. In his OCD hurry to grab what he assumed was an errant dirty cup, the contents dumped on the floor without him seeing it. grrrr.

Just to correct the record, DH is not only NOT tidy, he is what one would call a slob. :-)))) Which is why it's even more maddening!!!

Oh, also recently, I got up to pee and when I got back he had made the bed

Ha ha, Louise. This is actually something I do. It’s the perfect opportunity to make the bed.

My OCD husband can't stand seeing a dirty car.

He washes our three cars daily (DAILY!), the neighbor's cars and those who belong to several employees at our local store where he does the grocery shopping early every morning, the AM/PM market where he buys his morning coffee and donut and any friend of mine who comes over to visit. I have a lot of friends who like to come over to visit. LOL

It is not OCD; It is CDO in alphabetical order like its supposed to be. <grin>

I can relate to the 'banish from sight' DH. He has only in recent years understood that a clean desk/countertop/whatever can mean that he's discarded something we NEED. In response, I have become pretty fast with OHIO (Only Handle It Once), filing away important papers as soon as they arrive.

OK, now I have to confess that yesterday I emptied the tea leaves from the tea ball into the garbage at four p.m. and -- evidently, because I couldn't find it today -- threw away the tea ball, too! Senility? Who knows.

Remember the "P L O" on the blackboard in our school days (Please Leave On")?

How about taking a piece of cardboard, writing on less than half of one long side, "Please Leave Alone!!", then fold down the middle just above the writing, to leave on the table, counter, wherever, when there's something there that'd give you the screamin' meemies to have interfered with?

(You could make other such signs, later, with just "P L A!" on 'em, I figger - [maybe - you'll know what chances there may be of success at that!]).

The fricken kitchen timer! It never fails. I will be timing something and think "gee, it seems like a long time" to find that DH walked through the kitchen, saw the timer going, and turned it OFF. He's trying to save the battery or some such. You know, the batteries that last like forever already? ARGH.

These are so funny, I’m still grinning as I write. My DH is fairly neat...except his own desk. What a nightmare. He cleans it once a year when he has to look for stuff for taxes.

The other thing he does that drives me nuts is he is obsessive about light bulbs and lights being left on for a millisecond. I can be working in the bedroom and master bath, sorting laundry, straightening the bathroom, whatever, and will take a load to the laundry room, intending to come back to finish tasks, and he will turn out the light. I try to tell him it is probably costing more to turn it off and back on and he just doesn’t get it.
