Garage door Wayne-Dalton PRODRIVE

Hi,

We have a PRODRIVE model 3222C-Z (1/2 hp) garage door opener which has had issues with getting stuck twice so far in the past 2 years. The house was 9 years old when we moved in. I just wanted to know do garage-door openers last long or is it time for me to change it? I have already spent $60 (Service call home warranty) couple of years back and wondering if it is best to just get a new Genie garage door opener and call it a day. Any thoughts?

They should definitely last much longer than that, though I have no experience with Wayne Dalton brand. I see they no longer make/own/support their openers so it might be best to replace unless you want to fight with it. If it were me, I'd replace with a Liftmaster with a solid rail. That's what I have in my garage. Liftmaster is Chamberlain's pro line.

One of my rental houses has a chain drive Craftsman GDO that, according to the house's previous owner, was installed in the early 1970s. It still works fine.

I had to replace the motor starting capacitor in the early 1990s. I've also replaced the remote controls and receiver twice, but the second time was because tenants moved away with the remote controls still in their cars.

Craftsman GDOs in that era were made by Chamberlain. Maybe they still are, I don't know. I haven't set foot in a Sears store in many years.

A properly installed and maintained garage door is counterbalanced by the door springs. It can easily be opened and closed by hand. Any opener on the market can do the job. If it were me I would go with the belt drive but if it were me there wouldn't be a Wayne Dalton anything in my house.

I have just had the same problem,remove the two screws holding the plastic cover for the i drive,lever of the cover(it is on clips)on top of the main board are two round brown fuses lift out with bullnose plyers and replace,if you have a problem getting fuses go to wayne-dalton.com and click on the link contact us and ask for new fuses,also your plug should be on a surge protected plug to stop spikes on your main board,needless to say before you start work isolate from electrics first,good luck Best regards Derek.

From an offline discussion with Don: On the rear of the motor unit and just to the left of all those white wires you should find a button. It is called the smart/learn button. Press and hold this in for 6 seconds. This will erase the memory of the logic board. Now press and hold the large button on a remote while you press and immediately release the smart/learn button. Do this with both remotes. Should take care of your problem and the wall control should no longer be flashing.

I had an iDrive (not the Pro) a while back and thought it was a pretty neat opener. At least the original one only worked with torsion spring doors and essentially wrapped around the torsion tube and worked by rotating the tube. It also had a little "foot" that would swing down to keep the door from being forced open. Unfortunately they weren't the most reliable things, I think I replaced the entire unit once and the also the control board in the span of about two years. I'm working from distant memory here but I think it had an upper and lower control limit switches. So one of yours may need to be slightly decreased.
