Loving Archduke Charles (thankyou!) and other blooms (IMAGES
Comments (7)Love 'em! I'm going to go to HMF right after this to look up the Archduke. It's funny--or maybe common for rose lovers--but I go out each day now that its spring to see what is happening in the roses. I look for new buds and see the progress of the unfurling of the sepals. So far, I don't have much blooming but some of the more modern ones, i.e. a Baby Blanket standard and Pink Iceberg. Christopher Marlowe is tottering on the brink of blooming as is Louise Odier. Madame Hardy is taking her sweet time leafing out from dormancy just like last year. Her blooms seem so far off! But I continue to check daily! Good show on your roses and keep posting pics! Comments (28)Sherry, if your AC is producing such great blooms in the pot, it won't be long before it looks like Linda's. Her pics are how I remember the blooms being. Thanks, Linda, I really enjoyed looking. Thanks for posting this thread; I love this rose, and I can hardly wait until mine starts blooming. Gean...See More'Climbing Archduke Charles'?
Comments (12)That's right Brent -- that's the garden. I was told, long, and long, and long ago that the roses were planted either for, or by, one of the Mrs. Baldwins (there were 4, but the first two don't count) OR for, or by, his daughters. If Daughters, I would say, practically-speaking, it would have been Anita Baldwin. And -- not in this case, Kim. Not unless the Icebergs were planted to replace the Austins which had not worked out well there. I'd bet money that was it. No, the old roses that were there were well-established and had been quite healthy, and that garden was lovely. Brent, do you remember the HUGE Chestnut Rose? I know there were Hybrid Musks there -- and I really can't remember what-all. I knew that place best as a child, so I really didn't know about rose names. I was fortunate, that evening when the vandal spoke to SBRS. I didn't have to lose my temper. Others present did it for me. It got quieter and quieter . . ....See MoreArchduke Charles
Comments (8)I'm also a fan of Archduke Charles and love that it is a little more upright than other chinas, allowing a little more room for neighbor roses. Cramoisi, however, is my favorite rose and is the only OGR that I have three of. Like Sammy, I love that it is big and it is truly impressive. A tough choice indeed!
