Flooring Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Floor vent register covers on tile floor

I am interested in getting a more seamless appearance on our Master Bathroom floor that we will be tiling with 6"x36" wood-look porcelain tile (Aspen Cherry). The 2"x10" heat register is against the far wall, but right in your line of sight when you walk in the door. It's not a large bathroom (8.5'x9'), so this register is very visible.

Has anyone had experience with Chameleon Tile Floor Vent Registers (where you cut pieces of tile & affix them to the register grid? Are they durable to traffic (this register is in front of a linen cabinet so would be walked or stood on)? Have the glued tiles stayed securely in place?

Any other suggestions on how to camouflage these often unattractive but necessary register covers?

I think I would go with a metal one in a color as close as possible to the tile and leave it. I can’t see a stuck on tile raised up now higher than the floor being anymore invisible or practical. I do see on google that a company makes an actuall floor vent for their porcelaine tile maybe check that out.This one is from HD

I am in the Chicago area and there is a company here that can cut a floor register out of your tile. We thought about it for our master bath the cost was only $100.00. Ask at your tile supplier if they know of this option near you.

Based on recent events, I'd be shocked if the whole house remodel contractor sends someone who knows what side his toast is buttered on, much less avails himself of the right accessories for my floor. That's why I'm finding hem myself. So you're saying yes, they're available or yes, they're a pain to finish like that?

What Hallett & CO suggested, that's the place to go. Ordered a few custom grills from there, they do make nice stuff. Just make sure you specify Material-Steel Design-Metal and that it will be used a floor return grill.

Measure the length and width of the duct opening. This looks like a 10 in X 6 in register would fit. You can find this Home Depot. The register can be a little smaller and does not have to be an exact fit. Your register sits on the floor so will have to subtract 1.5 - 2 inches from the height measurement.

Get a magnetic vent cover on amazon (google it) and close the floor register, they can easily be cut and shaped. Also if you use a regular floor register, take the wall register off, put the floor register in, and put the wall register on top of it... It looks like there is enough space under the wall register, if not trim some of the wood to raise it up. If you not handy enough, call a local handyman they will fit everything in 10 min. Good luck

That's a great idea. Do you have any ability to close the vent with tilting louvers?

Patricia Colwell Consulting: I will check with the tile manufacturer to see if that is possible. Thanks so much for taking the time to help.

On the floor registers that I saw online where you affix tile to them -- their instructions indicate that the vent with the tiles will sit flush with the floor. The vent gets put in place first, before the rest of the tile goes down, and then there is a removable grate (so you can clean down there or fetch an earring that might have fallen into the vent).
