A change in the weather?
Comments (4)Dorothy, Yippee! Woohoo! Yeehaw! How's that for sounds of celebration in behalf of your wonderful rainfall? I'm so glad you received that rain and hope more falls when the next round of autumn rains target our state. I was watching the radar last night and thinking it looked like rain was falling there....but with the way storms break and skip areas in this state, I never completely trust the radar znd was waiting to hear you say "it rained". We have had more rain than y'all this summer, and I think that's a first. So, based on what I've observed since moving here, I'll have a better weather summer than you approximately 1 out of every 12 years? It is unfortunate you apparently have to have a dry summer in order for me to have a wet summer. And, it really wasn't that wet. In July all the rain fell in a few days and then we were dry for a long time. In fact, our August water bill was the largest one we've had since moving here, but we were watering a great deal to keep the garden producing and a band of green around the house and barn/garage, and watering all those containers and keeping water in the lily pond, so I know why the water bill was so bad, which doesn't make me like it any more. Hopefully that pattern of a couple of rainy days followed by several dry weeks won't repeat itself in September. As grateful as we are for this week's rain, I sure hope we have more before October. I would have thought that all that rain would have meant no fires, but one department got paged our to a grassfire at the other end of the county yesterday. Maybe that end of the county missed out on the rain that hit us. Have fun planting the fall garden. I walked 3 dogs this morning, one mile each, so I covered a lot of ground and you wouldn't believe how much the pastures have greened up in just a couple of days. It's like a whole different place.....and I'm sure the local ranchers are relieved to know they'll have some grass to feed the cattle a while longer. The ranchers planting winter wheat should be happy now too. Dawn...See MoreWow, Not Pepper Weather Tonight
Comments (7)I didnÂt want to start a debate on what global warming is my comment was an obviously failed attempt at humor. IÂm fully aware that global warming in reality does not necessarily mean rising temperatures. It does mean that we will experience erratic and more sever fluctuations in "normal" conditions. Not clueless here, IÂve been aware of the issue since the 1980Âs. Back when the concern was being described as "the greenhouse effect". Wishing everyone success with their growing season this year, regardless of weather conditions, Bill...See MoreChanging bedding from cold weather to warm weather.
Comments (19)I love Matelasse, I have several coverlets and bedspreads in various colors and prints of Matelasse. I will add a light weight fleece blanket in the winter. I don't like a lot of covers, I generally am not under the covers much. I will have the cleaning lady take the blanket off this week. Might change to a new pretty summery print Matelasse I bought but have never used yet. I currently have my favorite one which is raspberry color on the bed. I find one of those with the sheets is just right, I prefer a very cool room. The ceiling fan is on high all year, plus I have a 10" fan that is aimed at my head on all the time, we have a good size metal antique style fan on a stand that I have on a fair amount of time. I must have lots of air movement on me, my Dad was the same way. I feel like I can't breathe if I don't. I really think that we could have gone with out the blanket this winter since it never got very cold....See MoreOT--Wow it looks like many of us are having quite the weather!
Comments (4)I'm in So. CA and have taken a chance that the pots will survive the rain we've had, but yesterday I decided that they've had enough. Starting to worry a little about the echeverias which trap water among the leaves, near the stems. I brought some in and set them on newspaper. It was surprising how much water wicked out. Another storm is coming in tomorrow (Mon.), and later today I'll bring them in or cover. The tricky one is the 4' cactus. I'm thinking maybe a dry cleaners bag. Just adding that we are loving every single drop of rain....See Morekatlan
