Revamping tv/dining room

Hey all

I desperately need to give my living/dining room more oomph. I've been living in this house for 4 months now, and the furniture I have doesn't really fit the house, or so I think. I'm thinking about painting the wall behind the tv a bold colour and than hang the tv. I want to put the plasma stand under the hanging tv. The middle section of the glass stand I want to put in the entryway. I'm thinking about putting bold pictures on the wall behind the couch. Ive bought smaller legs for my couches as it feels more comfy. Tested the single couch with it, but don't know if I don't like it and if I just have to get used to it. I've got a big mirror that I'm thinking of hanging on the wall at the dining room table. as you can see its a open plan living, dining and kitchen area. Can anyone please hep with suggestions? Especially with the sorting of furniture. I've got a corner lounge that's currently in the garage.

You have quite a bit of seating for your place. How many people live there? I ask because there is a ton of furniture and all of it is oversized for the size of the room. Are you planning to put the sofa from the garage into the room too?

Can you post a sketch of the room showing dimensions of the walls and openings and the size of each furniture piece you have there now?

We are three people living the, me hubby and our 3yr old. I bpught the furniture for the house I used to live in thus im sitting with te prob. I just memtiond the corner couch, can it be a option to rather use it. Other option would be to sell both sets and buy something that fits the space. I'll get the plan of the house and post it. The big furniture in the tv room space also bothers me. I havent even thought about taking out some of the couches

My first impression was that everything is dark - the walls, the furniture, the fireplace surround, the curtains, the whole ambience. If it were my room, I would paint the fireplace a cream color, change the wall color to a much lighter shade, take the curtains off and put on some light colored side panels and move one of the couches out of the room. I would choose a larger and more colorful rug, perhaps blue and cream stripes for a vibrant, contemporary look, and declutter the bookcase after that has also been painted a lighter color. Your room will look much larger and brighter. With the TV over the fireplace, I'd remove all the small objects on the mantel which just look busy without adding anything. It may seem like a lot of changes and of course these are just suggestions, and you may not agree with some or all of them.

It would help if we had a better idea about the orientation of the rooms -- the space you have available. I agree with those who suggested you consider swapping the functions of the rooms -- make the existing dining room the TV viewing room and move the DR table to another room (LR or FR). Failing that, is it possible to extend the feed from the security cameras to a location where you would actually want to sit and watch TV? Failing that, could you purchase a nice tablet for hubby that he can have with him anywhere in the house, so he would have ready access to view the security feeds? After all, I would think the need to view those feeds is momentary at best -- watch a movie, pause the movie to check cameras for a second, return to movie -- right? He's not going to actually sit there and watch the feeds for any appreciable period of time, I would think (although my father can sit for appreciable periods of time watching the Weather Channel, so what do I know?).

Unless you have some special situation that we don't know about, the basics are that you need a table and chairs in the dining area. How many people do you want to seat? Do you need more storage in that room too? Benches are not as comfortable as chairs, and don't fit well in the room with your windows and baseboard heating units. Are there children or adults only? For the living room, a sofa and 2 chairs would fit well. How many people do you want to seat at one time? 2 chairs are better than a love seat, comfort-wise. It looks like the side near the front door is open - what does it open to? Will there be a TV in this room? That will make a big difference in furniture arrangement since there seems to be only one wall it can go on. When you send us the room dimensions with door and window openings we can give you an idea of sizes.

I understand why you wanted to have the bistro table/chairs on the window wall between the patio door and the kitchen passageway….it makes sense to have your dining area adjacent to the kitchen. The open wall at the opposite end is the perfect location for the tv. So swap the sofa and loveseat and anchor them and the cocktail table on the rug (front legs of sofa/loveseat on the rug), so the loveseat will pull in closer to the fireplace, leaving room behind for the dining area and access to the patio door. The square end table could then be placed in the corner between the sofa/loveseat.

It will be more effective to see the plan before deciding on which pieces to eliminate from the room. I didn't realize there was more than one room in the pics I thought this was the TV room. Please post a sketch of each room and it is usually better to have one thread for each room. If this is a great room, like dining and TV room together, it gets treated as one room.
