I think I know why I can't pick out a backsplash...
Comments (14)sue - yeah, we go to the beach all winter long too - weekend here and a weekend there. Someday I hope we have a house there. The beach is beautiful all year - the entire maine/nh coast is beautiful all year though. It's the most beautiful place in the world - Nubble on a stormy day with the water crashing up? The giant mansions that line the coast in Rye? (we used to "pick" out those houses as kids, which were mine, which were my brothers) But I'm a summer beach girl at heart and to walk around with sand between my toes and the sun out, and a good outside shower at the end of the day...ahhhh...and the smell of the marsh at night and the sound of the waves......See MoreDid you tear out a NEW backsplash, countertop or floor?
Comments (12)I went on a trip to FL while my bathroom renovation was being done. I had picked out everything at the suppliers recommended by my contractor, left diagrams on where I wanted the knobs installed on the vanity, etc. etc. I tried to think of every last detail. While I'm gone, I get a phone pic from the contractor of the backsplash that he had just installed. The pic was very grainy, but the tile looked way darker than I remembered. I called him and said I didn't think it was the right tile. He had picked up the tile from the supplier and he assumed it was what I had selected. I asked if it had any white marble strips in it, and he said no. I said it's not the right tile. Turns out, it was a manufacturer issue -- they had the wrong item number on the back of the tile sample! Just my luck! He wanted me to leave it up rather than have to tear it out and re-install. He said "it matches". Ha, it was horrible! Anyway, I told him to take it out and put the rest on hold until I came back. Just goes to show, you have to be there every step of the way to be sure it's done right. Even the shower curtain rod was installed in a place that I thought was too far in. I took it down and reinstalled it myself....See MoreNeed Help Picking Out a Backsplash Tile
Comments (21)Just my 2 cents, but i'm not a fan of the smallish glass tiles as I think they're a current trend, and not a long term item. Have you considered, or even looked at subway tile? 4" x 4" tile on the diagnonal with a possible border is another possibly. I'm more traditional so not into trends at all....See Morehelp picking out grout color + ending backsplash border
Comments (8)Hi thanks for the responses ! The trim is going anywhere the backsplash ends , so all those cuts will be addressed. I just can’t quite figure out with what kind of trim. I’ve looked up the metal ones, but they’re very thin and I want one that’s at least an inch wide. And I’m not finding a matching glass tile color to use. And yeah, I originally didn’t want the side splash of the quartz on the wall either but was advised from several people that behind the sink areas, without a side splash, can create leaks / water eventually seeps in between the tile backsplash and counter top. And because the sink is in front of the pass thru , and we wanted a counter top for the pass thru anyway (paint never lasted and always came off bc of heat from food and how we use it) — with the side splash, there wasn’t enough space to put tile (I won’t lie, I wasn’t the most confident in my contractors abilities to do it either) so again, just decided to continue the quartz up. Definitely not the traditional way to do it, but I need this to last several years, and we use our kitchen a lot. So I figured this was the best way to get the most longevity out of our reno. But yeah, I myself would’ve preferred to not have it. Lol. My first choice for backsplash would have been marble - but thinking longevity — we cook with a lot of turmeric , paprika, etc - lots of staining ingredients- so I didn’t want to deal with the hassle of maintaining marble either (backsplash continues behind the stove) Out of all the options at floor &decor, this backsplash seemed to match best at the time. But now I’m just so unsure about it, so I’m just trying to make it work. Here’s picture of wood floor. It’s a townhouse - so foyer , kitchen and dining has same flooring. This pic was taken before backsplash. Thanks again for the input ! Any ideas on grout color? The cabinet color also keeps changing. Some days it looks blue, others a grey blue....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
