help me transform my basement living area!!

Hey guys I’m in a rut! I’ve had my floors installed (grey wood tile) and painted one wall dark grey (westchester SW) and the other walls a really light almost white grey. I just can’t seem to pick an accent color. I know I want all gold accents (coffee table / and tables/ any small decor items) and I knew I wanted mauve as an accent color since the dawn of time but when I went out to actually buy mauve items I just didn’t like it it ended up looking so PINK to me and I can’t Shake it off . I inputted two photos of what I imagined it to look like and it just looks hot pink to me. I am planning on hanging TV .
Also I posted a photo of what the other side looks like it has my old couch which I plan on getting rid of once I figure out what to put there instead (maybe a cute chair with a little buffet table?) I have a small kitchen on the other side of that old couch if u want a feel of my space. Toys will be put away.
Paint and couch and flooring can’t be replaced.

Comments (13)Fantastic pictures, thank you! Yes, I plan to paint all the trim white. Between the stove and the fridge there is some counter space - that is where I have my kitchen aid mixer and my canister set. I love to cook, and though my kitchen is far from ideal I've learned to make the layout work so far. The ceilings are not drop down so I do plan on removing the ledge in the dining room and doing floor to ceiling in one color. I love the idea of aqua/turquoise accents, so I'm thinking maybe a paint color with yellow undertones (although I'm kind of scared of yellow) but I don't know what other color goes really nice with turqoise accents. Thank you boxerpups for posting my pics for me. I guess more specifically, a few questions I have are: Does white trim = white cabinets = black/white or grey countertop? And does cream cabinets = brown countertops = cream trim? I don't know what the rules are about warm and cool colors. Comments (19)When it comes to hanging art, keep in mind those Velcro Command Strips. I use them to hang almost everything and they don't damage the walls. They hold a surprising amount of weight. That metal scrollwork would probably take one nail, but most artwork, unless the frames are really heavy, can be hung with the command strips. I'm not so sure the metal piece is "farmhouse." Rustic, probably. When I think farmhouse, though, I don't think of that type of piece. I think you can do better, but if you really LOVE it, then go for it! I do like the upholstered ottoman but I like yayagal's coffee table suggestion even better! Comments (3)Your room looks nice so far. A larger rug would have been nice, however, just move the front legs of the sofa and chair on the edge of the rug. I would suggest looking for a some large art for over the sofa next. Then you can pull colors from that for your accessories....See More

6 years agoWow thanks celery girl I love it the set up you chose although I like “dusty pink” more Than mauve but the setup is great! I was looking at a marble gold table like that i didn’t know if box or circle table would look better in my little space. Advice is appreciated!!

I think you do not have to bring dark colors in room. Lack of natural light, dark wall and rug...Use light accents.

6 years agoyou did not say if you wanted to keep those pillows so i disposed of since you said you did not like purple. ok on to greens, you did not say light or dark. don't have much dark anyway. sets first
