Nah. I've rooted G. croucheri ssp croucheri twice from a single leaf--the first time had a nice amount of meristem, then the second time when I cut the original leaf out (it was too long and in the way) and stuck it back in pumice. Both times it rooted. Somewhere in this thread, hanzrobo mentioned he suspected the meristem ran along the entire length of the leaf. That is, they are actively-dividing cells that you can take advantage of. It takes months and months though. G. batesiana, specifically, is a mind-numbingly slow species, if you have the original one and not a hybrid.

"If/when they rot" is implying that I don't know how to take care of my plants, and they'll rot because I don't take care of them to her standards. Her comment is irrelevant, anyway. I asked about the colour of the roots, not the condition I keep my soil. "What you have seems pointless" Nah. It's pointless to try and think you know the reasoning as to why I do it. I asked a simple question, you, Rina, answered it. That's all that was needed. Lena's comment, like I said, is irrelevant and, yes it is, condescending.

Lovely, I lusted after this plant many times. As for leaf props woth Pachypetalums, they will make a second plant if you remove the baby when it is really small, and I'm sure this is all relative to real conditions vs. ideal conditions vs. random vigor. I do know that most variegated plants do not generally have the vigor of it's natural, non-vari, parent. I also know that in general, expensive plants are expensive for a reason, usually because they are not easy to propagate or grow at all, or require ideal conditions, or just grow really slow. Lot's of people criticize sellers for asking high prices...but having tried to grow many "special" succulents, I get it. Especially considering many sellers have worked through hybridization, I can't imagine the patience and diligence it takes. Dick Wright and Renny are my heroes...even though I haven;t ever bought anything from Renny....yet. I have bought from Mr. Wright many times. The story I read on Renny is that she was at one time an echeveria collector, hybridizer etc. and ultimately switched to Haworthia because eheveria grew too big, too fast. Please post photos of you pachys as the grow:-)

The portion of the house that my plants are in is half underground. We run central heat at about 70F, but it stays cooler downstairs usually and that room in particular has all the vents closed. I'd say with big circulation fan blowing on them it's probably in the mid to high-60F range, probably closest to 67-68F during the warmer weather we've been laughingly calling 'winter'. I don't have a thermometer in that room but the living room registers a solid 68F most of the time. Might be a bit warmer considering the lights -- they are LEDs though and do not give off a lot. Probably just got lucky. The rest of the pieces are doing nothing except a few that are possibly molding. Do not quite have the sterilization washes down. I'm a clumsy gal and while my brain understood the concept, my hands were not always as quick to obey, haha.
