Kitchen Island Pendants...advice/ideas for foyer lighting

Does the foyer light coordinate with the pendant fixtures? If not, I'm open to suggestions!

We've chosen the pendants (from West Elm) for our kitchen island; there will be 3.

Below is a photo of the current foyer (9ft ceilings, 9ish ft deep and 8ft wide).

With this door, you want something that'll show through the transom from the outside. I think the last light you show would do ... but I'd keep looking.

Hello Everyone, We have just installed a bronze finishd WAC monorail system with 3 pendants above our island. Looks really nice but now I think we need to change our light over the neighboring Kitchen table (too many glass globes suspended in the air. Thank you for the responses. I guess a little more context would have been helpful! Let me see if I can fill in some of the gaps. Here is a layout of the dining and kitchen areas. It's not exact since this was the architect layout initially and we have made some changes on the fly during the construction - it's very close. The island is big and was how we wanted it. We have 5 kids. This tends to be our gathering place and with everyone wanting a hand in cooking, it just fit - and we have no regrets. Same for the ceiling height. That was also our choice and what we wanted to do - as the construction is going along...we absolutely love it! Definitely no lack of choices...it's just about finding something that really speaks to us. Less worried about price point than finding something that we love - although our budget is not unlimited. We selected this for above the dining table: Hubbardton Forge Etch We are considering this for the island Modern Forms Cosmic The lighting store suggested this above the island. We like this...but are having second thoughts. Hubbardton Forge Sling Front Entry Door Sconces: Hubbardton Forge Shadow Box Tall We don't have a lot of other fixtures in the house. A lot of recessed lights, accent lights, and ceiling fans. If you have any suggestions on foyer lighting, I would appreciate it as well. We don't want the traditional look of a large chandelier and similar to the island...looked at so many things that just didn't get us to where we wanted to go...and now just considering recessed lights. I wouldl not repeat the shape, you could touch on the pattern. We are replacing our tile floors and need suggestions that will work with existing adjacent wood floors. Looking at light cream and beige tiles in a larger size than original 12 by 12. Also considered a wood look ceramic tile and also replace wood in family room off the kitchen ( but we want to keep the wood in the front rooms off the entry/foyer area. We have pets so I like the durability of tile in kitchen area. Any suggestions (pros and cons) appreciated. I don’t want to make a costly design mistake.

No, the existing foyer light is not harmonious with the pendant you show. The really isn't harmonious either. Look at the pendant: it's curvilinear and completely transparent. It uses an Edison bulb, which is much of a feature of the pendant as the shape of the globe and the color of the socket and hanging component.

For the foyer, find a surface or suspended fixture with similar characteristics if harmony is really important.

You may want to see if the same company you are getting the pendant from has other light options in the same family.

We purchased all our lighting from Designers Fountain and went with their Mendocino collection. With 13 different lights in that family there was enough variety to get everything we needed from bathroom sconces, bedrooms, library, foyer, kitchen etc. This way everything in the house has the same style which was what hubby really wanted.

I disagree with Virgil. The lights are far enough away from one another to work. Not everything needs to be matchy-matchy.

I missed that detail. I am just not into the Edison bulbs. They're more expensive to buy and supposedly last a shorter time. Sure, they're widely available today, but will they still be popular in a decade or so? Will they even be available?

I disagree with Virgil. The lights are far enough away from one another to work. Not everything needs to be matchy-matchy.

I agree that not everything needs to be matchy-matchy. I'd rather have lights with personality, and if you insist upon matching everything, you're going to lose out on that opportunity.

I look at things from not only a design perspective but from a practical view, too. Keep in mind that the glass encased pendant in a kitchen could get a bit gunky looking especially if you don't have a ventilation system that exhausts out of the house....or if you are not much into meticulous house cleaning! (Present company included!)

No, of course not. And if folks will read my comments, I didn't suggest "matching".

What I suggested was to get light fixtures with "similar" characteristics--not matching.

The OP's suggested foyer fixture has "bling" sides and an opaque base. The exterior form is hard edged.

Of course, everyone is free to choose whatever light fixtures they please. But the OP asked if the two fixtures "coordinate". The answer is no. They contrast, not coordinate.

Just my mileage since the OP asked. YMMV! :-)

I appreciate everyone's input. @nanj our kitchen is vented and exhausts out of the house. I'll continue my search and post here. I enjoy and need constructive input.
