I think the fade potential comes from two things; whether the color is from natural earth pigments or chemical pigments (earth is the most stable) Where synthetic colorant is mixed with earth pigments is probably where the biggest surprises can happen. And is the vehicle of the paint itself is of the highest quality, is will have more UV blockers and not subject the colorant to as much exposure. The UV resistance fades over time, but front doors seem to get recoated on an accelerated schedule anyway. My anecdote is from the next town over; they painted their imposing brick Victorian city hall a dark wine red, and it has now faded to a dusty plum ! Casey

Your house looks more craftsman than country. Especially the design on the windows in the door and sidelights. That said, if the doors and sidelights are wood, I’d rather see the paint stripped and just stain the door a nice medium to dark stain. If they are not wood and need to be painted, I’d go with an olive green, but I actually like the yellow they are now and you could even go more into a mustard. The trim should not be painted to match the door unless you also paint the trim around all the windows. The window trim currently matches the trim around the door, which looks fine IMO. I’d even say strip and stain the window trim if that’s what you do with the door. Just my two cents. Hope you find a solution that you LOVE! Good luck!

Its a shame the stained glass is gone! I love that feature. I was going to suggest a cornflower blue color that would have communicated well with both the stained glass and the wallpaper on stairs as well as provided contrast with bright yellow light fixture. Though I suppose a nice cornflower blue still works- contrasts the yellow door and fixture (if its still there) and ties in with the light blue of wallpaper. You could also pull a deep teal or a medium tone green from the wallpaper- they'd play nicely with existing elements. I would paint the banister the same color you choose for walls- but would leave the paneled stair walls white.

Depending on your market, I tend to agree with doing something with the floors prior to listing. That said, I've replaced carpet in a condo before only to have the new buyer come through during inspection to measure for wood floors (which was kind of a bad feeling knowing it would all end up in a landfill). My advice is to consult with a local realtor to get the best plan of action - if they think you can recoup the cost of replacing the floors, consider your options - it may not be carpet. No idea if it's available in your market, but Compass offers a service called "Compass Concierge" where they will include services like flooring replacement upfront prior to listing (no idea if this makes financial sense for you or your property - just something to consider). I've not used the service, but have listed with Compass agents before with good results (it's all market dependent though).
