Has has your weather been, and has it affected your garden?
Comments (28)Dry all last year and the beginning of this year (except for a 2ft snowstorm in Feb) until the last week of May when we got a month's worth of rain in 1 week. Alternating cold(30's) then hot (90) then cold (40's) temps in May and June, finally got tomatoes out the beginning of June and MORE rain! Poured for about 20 minutes at dinner last night, weather.com is showing 0 inches but I'm guessing 1/4". More gentle rain overnight, clear this morning and then this afternoon another T-storm. So I'm saying 7.5 -8" this month plus the 3.5" last week of May. Tomatoes are looking sad - I started replacing some yesterday and also planted 6 I'd been holding back. Haven't checked today to see how they've held up in the driving rain (had a couple broken last week). Peppers are still in 6-packs, I guess I can say they're hardened off though they may sunburn when I can get them out, 1 is blooming. Squash looks like it's loving this weather, cukes OK (seeded before squash and they're smaller), spinach is bolting and the kale and Asian greens are just OK. I guess I'll try to harvest mustard greens, tatsoi and bok choy for stirfry mix rather than salad greens since lettuce is so far behind. Carrots are disappearing, lettuce is barely coming in after seeding twice (every time I seed we have a downpour) but the arugula in the mix is getting tall (not bolting yet). Radish bulbs are finally starting to show above the ground 3 weeks after seeding and I don't know what's happened to my chard and beets that I've seeded twice. Beans are doing OK, but I lost 2/3 of my edamame. The only thing I'm harvesting right now that is doing really well is strawberries and they're coming to an end just as market season is beginning. Blueberries and brambles are coming along though....See MoreHot pile has now gone cold...What happened?
Comments (8)Dang Jon, I think we have a new "Horrible Fright" junky on our hands! Baaahahahaha!!!! As far as that pile goes, I do think the rain helped snuff it out but more important was that it was not turned in time. I find with my piles that when I see 165 degrees on the thermometer it's time to turn the pile. In my case I need to re-hydrate the material as I turn it because all that heat drives out the moisture pretty fast. With the rain hitting you before you turned it, the core of the pile was mostly burned out with not enough fresh stuff to eat. The rain came and compacted things shutting down the oxygen and ... the pile died. Look at massive heat as momentum. Once you hit 160, think about mixing it up to bring fresh fuel into the core. When you do that it can even keep on burning through a heavy rain. Fuel, plus air (from the re-mix) = a healthy bioactive pile. Also, I believe that once you reach the 160s the heat itself begins to kill off the micro herd. Mixing it brings them fresh fuel, air, and cools off the ranch....See MoreWhat has happened to Boyles?
Comments (8)Okay, I spoke to her again this morning. I told her that I wasnt happy with their service. We paid good money for this set and it arrived damaged so we would like for this table to be replaced. We are very upset that we are not getting any concrete responses from them as to how this is going to be handled. She told me something new today, " If it was damaged when brought in, we should have sent it back immediately! Instead we didnt, so now we have to go through this procedure. It has nothing to do with Bernhardt, it is Boyles procedure!" I explained to her that when we showed the damage to the Boyles delivery person on arrival, he told us to call it in. He did not take the stuff back. He said that we have 72 hrs to check each and every piece, call it in and they can pick it all up at the same time. They usually handle things like this very well through their award winning customer service. (not for me atleast) So a piece of advice to you all, please dont bother trying to make notes of all damage and resolve things over the phone.. just return damaged stuff immediately!! It will save you a lot of headache. I explained to her about the damaged veneer and that it cannot be repaired, must be replaced, so I dont understand why there should be a doubt even for the manufacturers restorer to have a look at it. She then admitted that even the report from the representative who visited our house said that this CANNOT be repaired. Then she tells me that there might be a posssibility that the table might be replaced. Then I told her, that that was all I was looking for from the beginning instead of all this headache and having to take time off from work for their rep to visit and wait on their reports and stuff and still no concrete responses, and I would have greatly appreciated her telling me this up front instead of going round and round. Then, get this, here is what she told me: She said that she did tell me this upfront (liar, never uttered the word replacement at all) but since I dont listen carefully enough I didnt catch it!!! That was it. I lost my mind on her. I gave her a piece of my mind, all the steam just came out.. and in the end, she told me I have attitude, refused to put me in touch with her manager and then told me that she will have her manager call me back. This was two hours ago. Still havent heard back. What a nightmare! Pls. learn from this. No one should have to go through this. It...See MoreWhat has happened to women today?
Comments (44)Wow - I have to say that this conversation surprises me. I’ve been told I’m attractive, have certain assets I try and minimize, love clothing and dress well but never “sexy” - especially at, or around work. I also have been in business to business sales for almost 30 years, have dyslexia but graduated college with two majors in four years, have an IQ in the 130’s and call on top ten clients in my industries. I didn’t do any of this by “being pretty” or “using my assets”. Instead I worked my ass off. And throughout my hard work I’ve dealt with others (mostly men) trying to box my progression into their definition of what I should be. Getting unwanted massages at an internship my senior year in college Not married until my 40’s meant years of being asked if I was gay. A client meeting in my mid 30’s with two men and a woman when I asked if there was anything else they needed, getting the answer “ I guess sex is out of the question” heehee Being told not to be so aggressive by SALES managers Being told, and then fired by, a young male manager who said sales has changed and older people don’t understand how it works now And the women who keep talking about how we try to impress others and be sexy to get things and how we dress means we invite others to treat us certain ways ALL are part of the problem. People who want to dominate and push others down do so through two channels. The first channel is direct where their actions lead to their goal. The second channel is by manipulating society into also talking about things in way that supports their goal. This really struck a nerve for me. ETA - I’ve also had plastic surgery and procedures that make ME happy....See More- 6 years ago
