Review of SubZero 36UFD French Door built-in
Comments (2)I have a divider in my freezer bottom drawer. It is odd that you don't. I love this model. I had been waiting for it before I started my renovation because I knew it was in the works and none of the other FD fridges made me happy. I had had a SZ for 13 years before that so anything else would have been a compromise. I think I might have been one of the first orders back in the summer of 2012! We have a narrow walkway so we needed the french door. By the way, the guy at the SZ showroom said that they view the regular 36" as their best model. My one complaint about the FD is different from yours. The door shelves are less useful than on the regular model and that is a bit of a pain....See MoreSubzero integrated versus built-in fridge/freezer
Comments (8)I have both - integrated in the kitchen and built in in the pantry. The integrated fridge looks way better. I also was unaware, but the integrated fridge has better lighting. I would never buy anything other than integrated and wish I had gone all integrated. That said - they are not cheap, but if you can afford it go integrated. Make sure your cabinet maker and counter top fabricator know it’s an integrated fridge. The opening must be 100% square. Ensure the both sign up to having the fridge fit (counter top could push the fridge opening in slightly which won’t matter on a built in but will on an integrated). Good luck....See MoreSubzero 36 inch built-in refrigerator and freezer columns
Comments (11)I think Debbie Washburn said (and showed) it best... it'd be a solid wall of cabinetry unless you separated them, and then again it will still look like a pantry. Or a refrigerator. Which it is. As regards built-in flush mount vs integrated, it really depends on your priorities and what look you're going for. If you want to fully 'hide' the fact you have a refrigerator in your kitchen (and that's debatable): Integrated, French. Not side by side. Even an integrated column looks like a fridge/pantry. You still have larger handle(s) than your drawers and cabinets, so it will always be known you've got a fridge in your kitchen (which I don't see as an issue), but 'integrated' does a better job with it due to the fact that it will have a slightly smaller gap (when installed properly). If you want more room than integrated offers for the same width, and simply like a paneled look, built in flush mount is still attractive, IMO. FWIW, we are paying the (less, actually) money for a built-in flush mount, and would not consider the integrated in the same space due to the smaller cubic foot capacity. Let's all please keep in mind 'marketing'. In DrB477's photo above you've got an different style panel on the flush mount built in, with big wide tubular handles. On the integrated example is a sleek, contemporary cabinetry, with smaller, slender handles. What would happen if we evened out the comparison? An ever so slight wider gap is the primary visual difference, while the 2nd visual difference is you will see a small amount of hinge at the top on either side (not all across as shown in the image - I know this as I've seen flush mount built-in installs): Rita, no, if they are flush mount, installed correctly, the panels do not to stick out on built ins. You are perhaps thinking of built-ins not flush mount. ETA: on SZ built-ins. Many SZ built in models have hinges that work in this type of flush mount application. SZ started adding flush mount install instructions to those that may be. As homechef59 says, it's all a matter of personal preference - as well as one's needs. And so no one takes offense to my comment that the cabinetry in the built in is a 'different' style I'd like to state that is the type of cabinetry (similar) we are using. It fits our home and is our aesthetic preference....See MoreRealtors, Builders: is a 36" Sub-Zero too small for a higher-end home?
Comments (33)SZ is certainly a premium brand with the "whoo-hoo" appeal. Sort of sexy, even though the space is very slim. I HATE them, and rejected them for my latest custom build. As a cook, I really need what I just built- an extremely functional kitchen that has a "quadrangle" cooking space. Not just the triangle any more, and my pantry, cook top, oven, and sinks (always one to serve the cooktop)- none of more than a few steps away. It's a dream to cook in, and my refrigerator has a bunch of drawers/compartments.shelves to house all that is needed- at my fingertips. So take care- high end buyers have been through the "wars" with these appliances. If something goes wrong, check into service costs in your area. Make sure you have a LOCAL company, not just an 800#, to call in. It can be very expensive, to fix, and you could be waiting a long time for it. In the meantime, you have a big freezer- completely un-meaningful for me, but maybe you. And another pantry around the corner. High end people who cook often look at the # of steps and meal they can think of will cost them. Hey- if your sales market projects the wealthy younger set, as most probable, no problem. But experience doesn't always love these....See Moresuzyq53
