Wallpaper in a Boring Hallway: Yay or Nay?
Comments (19)I don't know what that is at the end of the hallway (first picture) but it's partly mirror. You can see the reflection of the light fixtures and some wallpaper at the top and the floor towards the bottom. Weird. I love wallpaper and glad to see it making a come-back. We have no hallways in our house but if we did, I wouldn't be opposed to wallpapering it. It would have to be a lighter color and more of a tone on tone. Love the grayish beige paper with the oak floor. Several years ago (2004) we redid our daughter's bedroom. One wall had wallpaper on it. The 70something year old texture guy said he could probably just texture over the wallpaper :o What??? After he inspected it he said not to bother trying to remove it, he could go over it. I don't know how much I had gotten off. Maybe all the top decorative layer (the easy part). Well he went right over it and NO one but NO one can tell there is wallpaper under that texture. No issues what so ever and it's been 12 years....See MoreHow to add architectural interest to a completely boring Phoenix home?
Comments (20)I'm afraid that cut-out wall would forever bother me. Could the holes be filled in and the wall continued toward the other wall on the right, so that there is still a pathway on the left? If not load-bearing, why not remove it, and I think someone mentioned putting a wooden beam in the opening, which would certainly add architectural interest....See MoreHow can I add interest to a long hallway
Comments (17)I think if you keep the frames all the same size with white matts then add your colorful photos and don’t get all stressed about the colors working.I agree 3 fixtures would be a good idea make sure they are LEDs in 4000K to keep the colors true....See MoreHow can I add drama to this entrance hallway in my 1905 home?
Comments (22)It looks like ceiling has dark stained beams! Once you determine the true style you are pursuing, consider painting the ceiling and beams offwhite to brighten hall and visually lift ceiling. As to flooring, again after research, I would consult with good local flooring people and get their input and ideas on how to approach this flooring project. It is big, so you have good negotiating position for that reason. Verify if they have employees as installers with experience in this age and type home. We owned a home built in 1900 and speaking from “restoring” that home, to do things right, cost 2-3 times more than just “remuddling” it. We resisted remuddling and never regretted it. Key thing is the installers. I can see several possible approaches. Here are a few....See Moregtcircus
