Yea or nay on chair fabric
Comments (33)OK, done deal. We had a day without snow and I returned the other fabric. The hand really had me concerned. So now I found another one and it is the one. The color is deeper gold, more like the rug, so it doesn't disappear or float in the room. It's interesting as, in the light, it has a bit of a sheen almost like a satin. But mostly I love the feel. The hand is very pliable. It's a very soft microsuede that feels almost like a moleskin. So soft against the skin. And I tested it for wrinkles and they fall right out. And it was about 1/2 the price of the other one. So I got a couple of extra yards so I could make pillows or what not. I hope you all like it, but if not, that's ok too...I'm happy. I'm ready to call the upholsterer. GF hates this kind of fabric as it leaves tracks and marks and such, but I think it's part of the beauty of the fabric.......See MoreStart of 'Salvaged' Kitchen remodel...
Comments (149)mary_ruth, thank you, I'm sorry I haven't replied sooner. I mentioned that I'd like to make curtains to hide the baking supplies in the glass cabinets. I did another budget blitz by using wooden dowels (Restore, 10 cents each) and a 6yd curtain panel from a clearance outlet ($5.00) Total: $5.80. It's a long, thin 'swaggy' type, in a silky, iridescent green--very close to the green cabinet color. Last year I used a small piece of the panel to make toss pillows for the window seats. I use another of the $5.00 panels for a table cloth for large gatherings--it covers three 6ft long tables, with white sheets underneath for the drop. LOL, I'm getting my money's worth of that bargain! I posted these on a thread in the Kitchens forum, along with the observation that I kinda miss seeing the jumble behind the glass. :[...See MoreAre Beaded Chandeliers Dated?
Comments (31)This one is on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Creative-Co-Op-Beaded-Chandelier-Height/dp/B00K8E3AAA If you have to ask and consider the fixture an investment, I would stick to a Target or Amazon level fixture, seek out options on Etsy or resale options you might paint to suit. You don't buy a $5k fixture if you don't consider it a classic and know you will always love it -- or you can afford to redecorate floor to ceiling when you tire of it. I don't think that fixture will ever be a harvest gold stove kind of thing because the harvest gold stove was in nearly every kitchen that didn't have an avocado green one. They were both common place -- like the faux brass fixtures that gave brass a bad name for so long. What it will always be is a highly stylized piece that will appeal to a limited number of people and fit a limited number of places. So, do you love it and will you be willing to make it a feature when you redecorate -- or be willing to donate it to Habitat when you tire of it? I think those are the kinds of questions you need to ask yourself -- not whether other people give a hoot. it. For the record, I like it and think something like that would be fun in an office, kid's room -- maybe a bathroom, but I wouldn't spend 4 figures on it....See MorePorthole medicine cabinet: source for one for powder room
Comments (50)Thanks everyone for your help. I love those copper frames @ CB2 and even the deco wood mirrors, but I feel like there is so much going on in this room, I want some elements to repeat, hence the bronze. (I’m going for a quiet 12” tile floor that sort-of looks like sand) @Nancy in Mich thanks so much for mentioning the faucet and the pivot sink. You are right! No pivot mirror! I don’t want it crowding my faucet. BTW, the PB one comes in black, not bronze (doh, my bad) so that wouldn’t work anyway. But thanks for this good point. That would have been horrible for me. Any thoughts on the drawer hardware for that vanity (the top blue dresser style one)? My thought is to emphasis the dresser look and have each drawer have a pair of knobs. I’d choose chrome to match the Rohl faucet, so there’s some repetition. Maybe little round ones (Vs. square). For the hand-towel, I found a 10” wide l-shaped bar (from Kohler, looks a bit industrial, so goes w/ the sconces, in my mind) and then the tp holder also in bronze. I‘m wary of mixing metals in such a small room, so it would be chrome faucet and knobs (and toilet lever, I guess) and ORB everything else, including the hadware on the pocket door....See MoreAnnie Deighnaugh
