Comments (3)Slate is pretty high maintenance unless you prefer a look with "patina". That means lots of scratches from the sand, some shaling of the slate itself, and staining from various suntan lotions or food that might come into contact with it. Comments (3)Such a predictament! I love cherry in some environemnts, but agree that the oak is not only more "beachy", more casual, but the wood has more flexibility as far as style and colors. Wide planks are unique in their own right. Remember the cherry will darken over time quite a bit, actually, more so than the oak, as far as coordinating other stains, etc....See MoreNeed help choosing floor for beach home.
Comments (3)Commercial vinyl is pretty tough, but the surface will only take so much abrasion. I would look at stained, polished concrete, it's pretty indestructible. Another alternative is terra cotta, which actually looks better the more it's beaten up. In New England you see a lot of wide pine boards, either painted or in an oiled finish. They are cheap to put in and replace, and also look good distressed. I would stick to some sort of rustic look, rather than something slick, because it won't look pristine for long....See More- 6 years ago
