Help to save my Camellia
Comments (1)Hello, Sarah. Potting medium should be changed every now and then (usually every three years but some people do it more often). If you detect that the roots are starting to grow in circles then you need to repot in a bigger container and with new medium. The problem that you describe however, could just be old camellia leaves falling (think dogs and shedding time!!! LOL). This happens about every two years mostly during the months of May and June. Pine trees shed leaves like this too but they do it in the Fall. If you live near the coast (USDA Zone 8), you might be able to grow the camellia in the ground (ask a local nursery). I saw some around Vancouver (VanDusen Botanical Gardens) a while back but they were not blooming at the time. Newer varieties can grow in USDA Zone 7. Comments (7)We've been here in NorCal for over 40 years with PVC 3/4" sched 40 irrigation pipes. running everywhere. We've probably dug up most every shrub/tree twice over those years. Never, ever have seen any damage from roots to the pipes. The only damage to the pipes has been from our picaxe when we try to dig up old plants. But that is easily repaired. The roots just grow around them, as they would a rock in the soil. So, YES, fear not. Oh, and by the way, you can prune the Camellias to about any height. I have a bunch that are 7' tall espaliered against a fence. -Babka...See MoreCan this tree be saved?
Comments (13)@bengz6westmd I’m very close to the MD/PA border. This tree is very tall so I’d guess it’s native to the region or at least enjoys this climate. these pictures of bark fungus or mold are taken of the main trunk of the tree, on one side (which sounds hollow when i tap it), about 4 feet from the ground). the other sides of the tree trunk do not have that same hollow sound. is it possible to offer any treatment if i pulled off the bark where it sounds hollow?...See MoreCan this Palm Tree be saved?
