How to decorate a dining room when you don't want a dining room
Comments (19)I love having a dedicated INformal dining room! Yes, it's 'The Dining Room,' but it's not formal. Long farm table, comfortable chairs, warm lighting, flooring and surfaces that won't get damaged by kids or spills. A really warm and welcoming place to eat meals as a family or with friends. The 'breakfast nook' has just never been my favorite. Even when the space is nice, the furniture is rarely of a caliber that brings joy to the users... I'd replace that with two comfortable wingback chairs and a tall side table -- the kind of place you could have a cup of coffee and read the paper, or sit with a glass of wine while your spouse makes dinner or cleans the kitchen. The other great use for a 'breakfast nook' IMO is as a kids' homework area or auxiliary baking table. Another great use for an unused dining room is (if you can close it off) as a TV room. Get the TV out of your family room and reclaim that space as a family gathering area without the constant racket of a TV....See MoreMay I please see how you decorated your dining room buffet?
Comments (29)I love your little animals susieq! I do think a nice tall vase of flowers on the side would certainly look great in there - don't think you need to keep it low... Here is mine..I'm a plain jane...I hate to unleash the debated white mirror that most people hated LOL...but I kept it. What the heck....See MoreHow would you decorate this great room wall?
Comments (18)I would buy the largest rug possible for the area with the sectional which will help to "pull out" the sofa from that corner. Something with a bit of color to liven up the monochromatic look of the wall and sectional would really help. Instead of red I would consider yellow or lime green pillows, and also pillows with more colors and patterns. I don't see any lighting in that corner which gives it a rather "dead" look. A tall lamp to the left of the sectional would add height to that area in addition to light. Since the mantel already has a shelf-like look, I'm not sure whether shelves are the best idea. They should at least look very different in design and I would paint them the color of the wall. That will make whatever you put on them really stand out. It's a very nice room otherwise. If you like art, a beautiful picture over the mantel would make that area more of a focal point....See MoreHow would you decorate and paint this living/dining room?
Comments (7)If you are keeping your furniture, I would also keep the wall color, which works well with your floors and the blue sofa. I would add a large rug to the living area, in a pattern that incorporates a small amount fo the blue color. The biggest way to update your space is with new artwork. You need larger pieces, or you could try grouping them together. You want art to be hung at eye level when standing. You could try using the largest blue piece on the back wall and grouping all the rest over the sofa. Or keeping the blue one over the sofa and grouping everything else on the back wall with the mirror. Will you have a tv on the console? You could paint just that wall a deep color if so....See MoreRelated Professionals
