My cat likes to pee on my bed
Comments (48)You can't "discipline" a cat as you would a child. That's absurd. They don't think like humans do, nor do they reason like we do. To hit or abuse a cat, will create a very frightened animal that will be traumatized for the rest of its life. It will jump at its own shadow, and be constantly petrified in anticipation of the next beating. Why do that to an animal? People need to understand why cats defecate and urinate around the home when there is a perfectly clean litter box nearby. I have a cat, she's now 15 years old and she's been doing this on and off for the past 15 years. We've read up on this, done research, listened to dog/cat experts and none of their advice worked. I've "figured" this out on my own. Cats in the wild (lions, tigers, etc) "mark" territory using their feces and/or urine. When a domestic cat does the same thing inside its home, it's "marking". The question is: why does the cat mark? My best guess is, to help its owner "find it". Translation: I've found whenever me or my husband (or both of us) leave the home for extended periods of time, our cat will "mark" our home using both her feces and urine, usually on my husband's clothing, or a towel. In her little cat brain, she's leaving us a "scent" for us to find our way home. She doesn't like it when we leave the house, she would prefer we stay at home all the time, so we could pet her all the time, which is how she expects us to spend our time - petting her. In her mind, petting her comes above everything else. So when we're gone from home, she doesn't like that one little bit. And if we're gone long enough, she's figured we're "lost" and we need to find our way back home. So she "marks", using her urine, and/or her feces. Our cat has used both to "mark" for us. So would 'beating' her help? Would "discipline" help? As already mentioned, NO. You have to figure out animal psychology to understand just what makes them tick and what doesn't. Our latest way of handling our cat, is to lessen the amount of time petting her. It's hard for us, because we like to pet her, but this is a last resort for us. I'm sorely tempted to pet her, but I don't want her soiling our home. And rather than have her euthanized, we'd rather have her around a warm home with good food and clean water and live out her life. But with minimal petting, because the more we pet and spoil her, the more she soils our home. We'll see where this latest "theory" takes us. Comments (34)Hi Sophia, I can give little input on repetition. I don't pay attention to that here in non-winter land. Poor Abraham Darby got suckers from his Dr. Huey root stock after 4 yrs. and I thought they were the octopus canes I'd read about. By the time I figured it out they had taken over. I battle them every year (difficult access). Poor Abe is now only 3 feet high but in my climate grows easily to 6 feet +. Dr Huey is stealing nutrients and water. Large petal packed wafting uber fragrant blooms. Some blackspot in a non-spray garden. Evelyn is in the path of the wind. She has a lovely spring flush (no winds) and sporadic bloom thereafter (regular winds). No blackspot this year on either as yet. Disease wise I'd say they're equal here (very little). Evelyn's blooms are probably the same diameter as Abe's but not as deep. I keep her under 5 feet with pruning. A 7 ft. arching cane appeared after 6 or 8 years. Colors - Abe is usually a pink fully infused with peach-yellow-mango. Full bodied oomphy color. Lasts no more than 3 days in a bouquet. In Sept. mine changes to a warm medium pink, not as peachy as spring but never bluey-pink. A boring everyday color. In Nov. it is back to a prettier peachy pink. Evelyn, ah Evelyn. The pink dawn touched by sunlight? Not pink, not peach, but a sophisticated blend on gossamer satin petals. I think it is the delicate iridescence that captivates. If I could only have one rose bloom a year it would be her. So you see I am terribly prejudiced and pay little attention to the bush....See MoreCan I use this leftover cat litter for my roses?
Comments (13)Thank you everyone. Rosemi, I think I will use it as mulch for now, as it is just taking up space and it's just too hot for planting roses right now. I mean WAY too hot. Maybe I'll save a little for a rose hole that likes acid. We are accustomed to dry heat, but we had a week of high humidity with high temperatures. I don't know how people tolerate that! Sweat and shower, sweat and shower, I feel so gross! Then one day my phone kept going off with alerts about flash floods and thunderstorms. I dragged every potted plant out into the open and every houseplant outside, with a swollen and sore arm. Not a drop of rain fell! I mad a big mess and effort for nothing. Ok, done with that little rant, but really I don't know how some of you live with that humidity. Sebastian is still doing the same. I'm sick with worry over my baby. He's been with me almost 10 years now. His blood tests did come out perfectly fine, so it's puzzling. He is a very sensitive guy, and often shows signs of distress when I'm unwell, or if he is jealous about his momma loving another kitty. We do have both of those situations going on here at the same time. We will soon find out. Thanks for all your kind words. Lisa...See MoreHas our forum name changed or am I having a senior moment?
Comments (21)daisychain when I'm in a thread, at the top above the title in the OP it says GardenWeb Topics / Home Decorating Conversations. When I'm on the main page of the forum is where it says Home Decorating & Design Conversations. Olychick it's not the word Discussions that I'm questioning but Design - that's what I think was added. It makes the Discussion and the Conversation sides both have the possibility of being nicknamed DD which is what the regulars on Houzz call their Design Dilemma board. As I said, maybe I'm just pushing a conspiracy theory here and it's all about nothing. When I start talking to you about visits from extraterrestrials, call the men in little white coats, please. roarah - then I'm not nuts!...See MoreHY aka NewbieRoseLover
