They wuold love it, until they see another "gardening buddy" like a snake. YIKES! I saw one in the lower part of our siding this weekend, while dusting plants. I HATE snakes, much like Indiana Jones. I didn't have time to snap a pic, because I was grabbing tongs from the grill to try and grab it. ICK! He ws gone, and who knows where he went. :D

Hmm not sure what happened,, I know I posted a few follow-ups on this but now I do not see them. Here is what they looked like inside when I cut them open. They were very delicious, not bitter at all. The seeds even though they are quite large are soft to eat. The cucumber has a slight salty taste to it, crisp in texture and nice and crunchy. We have a couple of species of dull brown or speckled geckos that are very plentiful (both indoors and out), plus anole lizards, little brown skinks, and various other small 4-legged reptiles. These little guys from Madagascar have been making inroads into the local population the last several years, though. I don't know what kind of environmental impact they will have, but I really enjoy seeing them when I'm harvesting heliconias. I suspect the only reason this one stood still for a photo op is that he was planning to try and sell me auto insurance! (non-US residents: google "Geico gecko" if you don't get the reference)
