Smelly wool rug, but no latex backing. Ideas?
Comments (15)The smell is definitely not mold/must/fungus - I have an unfortunate amount of experience with that particular family of smells and it's not that. It's also not pet smells - got a lot of experience there, too! The seller was a reputable seller of new rugs - good feedback, located in the US. And the rug seemed new - the pile was perfect etc. I did email the seller today and they wrote back saying that the rug has no mothproofing sprayed on it but that they do keep them rolled up with a couple mothballs in each rug in their warehouse. So I'm guessing that the smell I smell is mainly the wool (it definitely has that wet-doggish smell) with a bit of the mothball mixed in. I'm guessing that I'm in for a stinky summer with the hot/humid season coming up, but hopefully the smell will dissipate eventually. It's not a horrible smell, like I said, just "tangy" if that makes any sense. Thanks for all the feedback. dd70 - maybe you need to buy it in a store and give it the sniff test first!...See MorePottery Barn Wool/Jute or Chenille Jute - cant decide.
Comments (5)Can't advise on the rug specifics, but if you're looking for this type of covering I'd also suggest you check out what's available at www.naturalarearugs.com I've ordered several rugs and been very pleased with the quality-free shipping is included as well. I just jumped online and compared one of their wool/jute rugs with Pottery Barn. Prices for every size are better, in some sizes by hundreds of dollars(!). Link below for your information. Good luck, I think the jute rugs are a great choice--just ordered one for my living room and love it. Much softer than I expected. In fact our cats spend a nontrivial time on it, just lounging about. It's hilarious to watch. Here is a link that might be useful: Wool/Jute Rugs from Natural Area Rugs...See MoreSisal vs. Jute for the bedroom
Comments (17)Sisal can be very hard on our feet; jute is much softer. But, you may be able to find a wool/sisal or sisal jute blend. Also, recognize that it's challenging to seam these carpets if both are your dimensions are wider than 13'2". This article should come in handy for Sisal vs jute...See MoreNeutral Rug - No Sisal or Jute
Comments (25)LOL! I never thought of greek key as 80s.. but it is definitely not an era I'd like to channel through my decor! Thanks for the recommends.. I've never heard of Natural Home Rugs but I saw a few in there I like for other spaces in my home. Boop.. oh there are plenty of rugs I like on Horchow-- but of course they arent the ones in my price range. You've shared some gorgeous rugs but a few are way too contemporary for my style and I am just not loving the sweater weaves. I am going to check out some broadloom options and a few local stores. Surely I'll find something. I don't think my requirements are all that unusual....See Morejill302
