help boys and girls. color tragedy

Need advice on repainting the front hallway. the entire first floor minus the family room is a beige...so front hallway and dinning where still waiting on bursts of color. doing one sided emerald green didnt quite work out...feels disconnected from.other side of the hall. What color would you suggest i paint to give my funky floor companions. just a splash of life. beige isnt cutting it and where should i add it in order for the look to flow. if doing a bold color, please prime first, in a darker gray tone. (did you know you can tint primer to any color you want? even the color you're painting,,,a little lighter so you know to cover all spots). priming the walls first will allow a better saturation of the bold color. otherwise you get blotchy spots.

those beige walls look somewhat gray. they're nice.

I'd also paint your bannister a glossy black to play off that floor.

instead of this emerald green that looks a bit juvenile, what about a black? or a

deep navy or deep teal? looks great w/the wood.

since you like funky,,keep the walls the pale color and try this

THat green is all wrong IMO a colored wall has to have some connection to its surroundings not just a stand alone color blob.I love the blue risers it that pic and if you notice there is that color in the vase and the art .

I have a similar setup. Rhodes behind Hollies. That gives color in the winter and late may early June. I am going to add Blue Hydrangeas and some low + slow growing golden evergreens to that bed this spring, summer or fall - whenever I can find THE plants to fit the bill. The golden color will match with the Blue Hydrangeas which should kick in a few weeks after the last rhode blossoms fall, well, that is the plan anyway :-) The trick will be to deal with the pH ....

have you checked out HGTV's Rate my space. I was looking on there last night and saw some very beautiful kids rooms/nursery's. One room (for boys, but it could be unisex!) RED bedding, with accents of blue, cream, brown, etc. The bedding was PB with ivory looking stars on it. Didn't scream boy to me. Very cute! Green walls. :o) Saw another boy nursery on there that had caramel apple colored walls. Crib was cream with glaze. Bedding was pale blue toile. So very cute. I've seen that exact toile fabric in pink as well. So you could paint the room the caramel brown, do her bed in the pink fabric, and his in the blue. Wow, would that be cute. Then do their accessory pillows, etc. in creams, ivorys, chocolate. It's much cuter IRL than it sounds. LOL! If you like shabby chic, you could always just do various shades of vanilla in the room. If your children won't be playing in their room (ie: markers and messes) than creams/ivory's/whites would be sooo pretty. :o) Can't wait to see what you do. Congrat's on expecting!!

Joanna, I'd suggest completely redoing the closet with double hanging bar and wire shelving - right now, it's not a very efficient use of the space. The systems from Rubbermaid and ClosetMaid are both good. You can draw it up and then get the shelves cut to desired length at Home Depot or Lowes. There are also kits, but those tend to not to result in as an efficient use of the space as something you design yourself, IMHO. The systems are very easy to install - basically fasten the top bar from which all the uprights hang to your studs, install the uprights and then shelf supports (which are all moveable) and the shelves. You might be able to get rid of at least one of the dressers with a better use of the closet space.

I think that room on Blackish is so cute. I don't know how to paint/decorate. I am having trouble because most rooms you see with shared boy/girl rooms they are twin beds and each side decorated differently. I will have a Twin over full bunk/loft bed. The kids really like the sports decals.. I am not tied to them but unsure how to pull this room together with either paint or something. UGH.. I wanted to hopefully paint next weekend. Any other ideas.

Agreed. There is something extremely offputting imo about that green with your floor and stairs. I love the floor!! But it has to connect somehow. I really love Beth’s inspiration pic with the black wall and the risers painted white.that’d be super fresh.

thank you so much girls that was helpful. i initially wanted just to do a green seiling. will see if maybe i can paint stairs instead now. they had just been tinted this week. its a new house. i agree its way off. black would work...teal is living room so doubt doing same hallway tone would be a positive?

I'd try that teal over the emerald (or cut it by 30% first and then use it) -- that gives it a link to the house in general, and it's a color that seems like it plays well with the taupe paint and floor color. You can tie it in more with entry accessories...

Ok I love that you love funky things. But the colors have to harmonize. Love the teal actually. And the floor. So, Instead of emerald with the teal, think: black, white, a bold fuschia/magenta, sunny yellow. That kind of palette will work. Teal+emerald+black and white doesnt.

that actually looks really good! much better. I'd like to see that teal you have on the risers, lighten as you go up the stairs. pretty addition. Are you painting your door black or staining a walnut tone? very nice entry way.

The new paint looks good. If you have bold taste you probably like to change things often too. I would do your funky with rugs, accent chairs, art, accessories etc and leave your house a nice neutral backdrop for your fun things.

I'd love to see some teal furniture in your entry hall.

What about a wallpaper?? I’m picturing something a similar shade of beige but with a subtle sparkly silver or gold pattern.

all of this sounds fantastic girls..the entryway photos are all beautiful...all exactly what i love...❤❤❤ painting frames black where i can front door is glass but frame wood so black can happen. unfortunately dinning room is plastic frame...husbands oversight. but in the back where kitchen and living room is again wood...so can be painted black. i love wallpaper too but again tend to be loudish lol. im russian . will look into it. but love the idea of more grace and elegance of black...and golden accessories or wallpaper... or teal as mentioned. ❤❤❤ would you say a yellow of some sort would be an overkill in the hall or up the stairs or anywhere? hint maybe? or mustard yellow maybe?

subtlety is a skill i haven't perfected by 37...thinking it aint coming another major f up was in the bedroom entryway..the liason btw us and the contractors suggested i do all blue...navy...though i the tacky girl thought hmm...accent wall...She said...do it all including on suite . so f me!!! look st this disaster. the entry is uber uber narrow...bc of closet...another long story. this is bedroom ...entry and bathroom on suite cant find image of walkway but imagine this blue...and french doors that open up to a narrow wall thats blue....walk left...washroom...walk right bedroom all blue aaaa. so ok...accessorize bedroom...wipe hands of washroom bc i overdid it . but the entry? i think wallpaper maybe to break up all this dark crazy????

i like your beige on the walls. that entry way looks very nice,,,classy. paint the risers in one of your colors if you like,,,and then perhaps hang a bold canvas art piece on the walls. but leave your paint on the walls as is.

for your teal, if you do the stairs, then do a canvas on the entry wall

In your bedroom if you used white bedding, headboard and white or light colored wood dressers and side tables the dark blue walls would contrast beautifully and look super dramatic! Do you have all your bedroom furniture already or are you shopping for it?

Thank you girls. i dont actually have any furniture...clean slate. we got a king mattress and never got around yo buying furniture in our old house...kids where small...seemed less of a hazard to just be closer to ground in most spaces. thus...my tacky overexcitment coming through. im beyond enthusiastic but have no idea how to accomplish. esp white bed. i love the idea but only like soft headboard types...low beds...or leather maybe? no wood. but love the idea of white playing with colour. and white in bathroom too. just ordered counter top in quartz Caesar white something lol. risers eh...ok...amazing. thank you again!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤

I LOVE your bold choices. In fact, I would repaint the green wall the same green but prime first. Add a few pops of color in the adjoining living room.

man, I love the bathroom floor, paint, vanity combination. can't tell what your issue is, but hope you can sort it out! colorful accents can easily leaven dark paint.
