Organic Healthcare products for beetles and thrips
Comments (8)I had read that Good Health Roses also worked on thrips, which is the main issue for me. If Paul says it works, I will give it a try. But the man who actually formulates these products was least enthusiastic about using GHR for thrip control and said he hoped to release a better formulation next year. Thrips have already made a negative impact on my Buff Beauty this year. I think I'm too late this season. After talking to Billy I thought I'd wait til the new product is released. Now I'm sorry I didn't at least try something. I'd love to hear of other people's experiences with these products....See MoreSad today about Canada's healthcare future
Comments (7)nancy in mich, You didn't say anything about the cost of advertising. The U.S. spends about 15% of G D P on medical stuff, Canada something like 10%, lower than that in some European countries, I hear. I haven't claimed that the Canadian system is perfect - far from it. And the prices keep going up. My old Uncle who died a couple of years ago had had three hip replacements - never heard of such things 40 - 50 years ago. Let alone replacement of kidney livers, hearts, etc., all of which are hugely expensive per individual treatment, and we're all doing large numbers of them. "All" that is, in developed countries: not so in underdeveloped areas (except for a few rich). And a lot of Boomers who are nearing retirement age: higher costs per cpita coming soon (when there'll be small proportionate numbers in the workforce. They say that private service will shorten the lines at the pubic service system, but quite a few who have studied the system in areas where they've tried it disagree. Private system absorbs quite a large proportion of (scarce) medicos, who carry fewer patients per, which means more patients per medico in the public system. In Canada there seems to more of a concept of "Live and help live", rather than "Grab all that you can for yourself while living: let the other guy look out for him/herself". The fat corporations (who love to talk about "competition keeping the marketplace in order" and other messages which, in my opinion, carry a whiff of barnyard by-product about them)love that concept: makes a lot of us peons (while they manufacture stuff in low-wage countries). o j...See MoreDo you think getting healthcare is FRUSTRATING?
Comments (30)claire, I can tell you that it's been HARD being our own GC, because at least in our area, there's a construction boom, and a lot of people have gone to N.O. for the ongoing work there, so it's almost impossible to get someone if all you have is a small one-time job, unless you're willing to pay extortionist prices that I think were really "don't want the job" bids, iykwim. Maybe your area won't be so bad. Ours is murder. The city permits woman told me, when we finally went in to get a permit to do our own plumbing (argh), that her brother built a whole house with himself as GC, and couldn't get anyone to return his calls. He said he'd never do it again--the construction industry is set up, and somewhat understandably so, so that the contractors get all the good subs and the subs who can't get ongoing gigs are the only ones available to us poor retail folk. But even the contractors I tried to get to work with us were not interested in "merely" a Master Bedroom and bath remodel; folks are evidently using their home equity to do complete gut remodels or huge additions, and a within-the-footprint remodel where many of the fixtures have already been purchased (they can't make their profit there) is just not attractive. A tile guy, and not an experienced long-time tile guy at that, told me that although he'd said he could do the work in late June, it now had to be moved to August because a construction company he works for has asked him to work starting in late June through July. He needs to keep them as a client, so he has to push the one-off folks off til later, if they're willing to wait. I understand this completely from his point of view, but it's still a pain to me. Not to discourage you or anything......See MoreHistory Today: Healthcare and Civil Rights
Comments (10)Whether de jure or de facto, there's far too much lingering segregation and too many people with racist attitudes in the US. It's shameful. Had I been a doc at the hospital where the disgusting incident raee describes happened, I would have had a long talk with the patient. And might have suggested they would be happier at another hospital, because at "my hospital", patients don't choose staff docs and that thoughts coming from attitudes like his were never followed....See More- 8 years ago
