Buying large kitchen appliances from online store
Comments (15)I'll buy my major appliances online when: The online retailer will sponsor my local youth sports team, buy my daughter's Girl Scout cookies, donate time to a local charity, have their cars serviced in a local garage, use the corner dry cleaner's services, get a haircut, eat at a local restaurant, etc. If you live in a "sales tax" state and are able to avoid the tax by buying online, you are helping fund those same services in the other locale, while not contributing to the cost of services you enjoy in your own community. Regardless of your home state's means of funding, your local economy is enhanced by your purchases of big ticket items from local dealers and loses when you buy from out of state. In these hard economic times your local retailers really need your support. Store owners and employees are active in your community and contribute to the economy by buying the goods and services that may well be connected with the way you earn your own living. You can always get an online quote and use it as a negotiating tool with the local retailer. Most will try to either match the price, or provide extra services the online retailer cannot. To have a local company (with a reputation to uphold) looking out for your post-sale interests is an added bonus. Here's a thought for any who watched last weekend's Solheim Cup golf tournament. If an attitude of support and loyalty like that shown by the American team members were to be shown toward the local retails in our communities, the economy would be well served....See Morestained glass supply store in NW suburbs of Chicago
Comments (17)Thanks so much for the help! Using the search + zipcode (which I read about first) I did get more appropriate results. Most were places that deal in custom windows, but after skimming through all the websites, one place did turn out to be a store/workshop that also sells glass and supplies! ItÂs only about half an hour away in Skokie. It shows up on the Google map one too. Odd that my other searches turned up window dealers even further away but not this place. I see thereÂs one in Naperville too but thatÂs too far. I canÂt believe I did not know about these tricks before. Better late than never! GinGin, IÂm in Buffalo Grove. Where are you? The Skokie place (Stained Glass Emporium) does say on their website that they carry fusable supplies. I took a workshop in fusing at NIU and the teacher got all her supplies from Ed Hoy in Warrenville. But thatÂs pretty far for me and I have never been there. I think it is all wholesale too. I liked fusing (I used to do a lot of enamelling) but decided I needed to work with the equipment and supplies I already have before starting on a new tangent....See MoreDo Big-box appliance stores provide savings??
Comments (6)Labor day is around the corner - check out advertisements as they come out. Appliances typically go on sale around these holiday's. Sears can be good, hhgreg if you have it might be worth a visit since they're kinda the opposite of best buy - more appliances, less electronics. If you got a local store you like, don't discount them either. A lot of places will price-match competitors. Additionally, some places (Lowes is one) will continue to price match for a little while after your purchase. This got me money back - so pay attention to prices even after your purchase....See MoreWanted: Chicago Furniture Store Recommendation
Comments (17)mdln how heartbreaking! I'm so sorry about your kitty losses - all else can be replaced. I've never been to Goods but understand that although the selection is enormous, their pricing is not as competitive as other stores. But that may not matter if it saves you running around. In Winnetka I like Material Possessions for interesting things - but they are $$$. The one bpathome mentioned in Barrington may be Honquest. Carsons had/has a furniture store at Edens Plaza in Wilmette with a nice selection. For resale you can check Anna's in Highwood or Village Treasure House in Glenview as bac717 will also recommend and just down the street from that is the Lazy Boy store. There's always Z Gallery, Pottery Barn..... If you go to Old Orchard and surrounding area you can hit probably every major furniture retailer and a number of small ones. And don't forget, many stores in the Mart are now open to the public but it may not hurt to get a designer involved and help you narrow your search....See Morestillpitpat
