240V Portable AC Unit
Comments (2)I don't think anyone makes a 240V portable air conditioner unit. Even if they did, it would not be switchable between 120V and 240V. That a feature would be very expensive to include in the product. There are window units which require 240V. These typically units larger than 10,000 BTU....See MoreMiele 240v-to-120v Conversion Kit - how does this work?
Comments (8)We've had 3 Miele (USA) spec washing machines and dryers in the last 15 years, and NOT one was able to be converted. IMO, this is not possible, or a good idea. Miele now sells several washers that run on good ol' American current...although their electric dryers (as so USA electric dryers) still require 240/200. Good Luck!...See MoreSplicing a 240v 50a range service. Yep, another Al wire question!
Comments (7)Thanks Pete & Bill. But Ouch! This would be a major unexpected cost in my remodel. Naturally the run is the longest possible distance from the worst possible access location. If I redesign my new kitchen layout so I only have to move the range outlet, and not extend the cable, would that work? Going from a 3' range cord to a 6' range cord looks like it will make it. Do you know when the code changed from 2-wire to 3-wire? I'm wondering if once I get into the wall if I'll find 3-wire and not the 2-wire it appears to be at the breaker box....See More240V wiring issue.

Circuit ratings (amps, not just volts) are driven by the load to be supplied and determine conductor sizes. it is not a guessing game." What? Who is guessing? I asked a simple question concerning code regulations. Can I run two 240V connections off of one to hook up two appliances. That's it, that's all I wanted to know. Is it allowed IAW the NEC to do it? I did not want lectures about load, amps, power, watts, or any of the other details I will handle once I get an answer to that one simple question. Ignorant? I have a degree in Electrical Engineering from Kent State and a computer Science degree from HPU. I worked as a Communications technician for 25 yrs in the Marine Corps. I sir am far from ignorant. But I do know when someone is trying to be an ass. I don't have a copy of the NEC in front of me, nor have I worked in the electrical field since getting my degree in 1984. Much has changed I am sure. So, I suggest you go back, read my initial question, figure out words have meaning, and then tell me who the ignorant one is in this post. Only one person has answered my question completely, he is the only one I would say actually understands my question, the rest of you seem to want to figure out all the details of my remodel before I do, or before I need it....See More- 6 years ago
