By controlling where the sitter is looking, you define the space. Put a sofa parallel to the TV wall, facing the TV, with a sofa table or low bookcase backed up to it to define the TV area. Define the fireplace chat area with a rug. A pair of loveseats, or a loveseat and two chairs, one slightly angled with its back to the doors and the other (or pair of chairs) matching with a nice couple of chairside tables would define the fireplace part. People sitting here should be facing each other, at a comfortable conversation distance. There will be the blank corners outside the fireplace conversation area. Good for a potted plant, maybe a small writing table in front of a window looking out ... a solitary activity. Maybe a bookcase And If you are having a big get-tpgether, just turn the sofa around so it's part of the conversation area.

I tried to visualize your space, based on your plan and came up with something like this: In the place of picture you can put a nice mirror or something similar. Instead of (book) shelves, you can put narrow cabinet, or maybe built ins up to ceiling etc. If this is your main entry, I thought a mirror (on the wall opposite of fire place) could be useful and also a narrow console table behind sofa. I think there should be enough passage space between sofa and the wall. Passage in front of tv might not be ideal position theoretically, depending on how much people live in your home and how much traffic is there..If not much, I don't think it should be a problem.

Some ideas: --i kind of like the way you used the bookcases to divide off the office end from the living room. Good thinking, but if you can afford the same idea but with solid backs on the bookcases, replace the current ones and only do your storage on the office side. All those bins facing into the living room add clutter to a nice living space and add an office spillover into your relaxing space. Remove all the stuff on top of the current bookcases for a cleaner look. --Rehome or say sayonara to the sofa blocking the pathway to the office. The room will seem bigger if you leave open space to the glass doors. --Sayonara to the corner cabinet at the far end of the room. Instead of the tiny picture over the chest at that end, find a great piece of vertical art to hang between the windows then choose new furnishings that harmonize with the art. --If you're keeping the current rug, then choose an art work in that palette. --Find a complementary upholstered chair to the one you have if money's tight. Otherwise, get two nicely proportioned armchairs to flank the fireplace. This style would look great in your room only with the chairs by the fireplace and the sofa where you have it. Note the clear coffee table, which lightens the space and connects the sofa and chairs. --

Marie13100, I mentioned in the beginning we are in the process of remodeling our kitchen and we needed to move the dining table into our living room temporarily and cover everything from the dust. Lynn G, you’re right. Having to look at the wall would be a bit depressing. The most recent floor plan I posted that had the sectional along the window and long wall would be perfect because we can view directly outside the patio door which is in the dining room.
