What lighting should I put in my entry way?

Finally time to replace the lighting in my entry way. Right now we have two outdated chandeliers. Ideally I would like to have one large and replace the one above the stairs with a canned light. However I'm still on the fence about that. Out of these 4 chandeliers I have found, would one work or should I go another direction?

It would help to see more of the adjoining spaces. I see black (I think) breakfast area? Wood tones on stairs and aquarium base. What other surfaces do you have? You have a lot of angular lines in the entry area, so something more rounded probably would work best. The large chandelier seems to be in the wrong place? But the photo could be misleading? Where is your front door in relation to that fixture? What style are you looking to join with the traditional staircase? The orbs you posted are kind of going out of style, the traditional with some crystal works with your dark furniture in the other space, but doesn't relate to the entry space? So, need more info to help you more. There are so many great chandeliers out there I'm sure we can find a perfect fit, just need more information. I would be very inclined (without further information) to paint the railing on the staircase black to take things in a more "transitional" direction, and then figure out what you want in chandelier(s).

Something like this would give you height, bling and the darker metal. Just depends on budget, style and how you want it to transform your space.

1 seems to repeat wall angles, which is interesting. 2 and 3 seem small. 4 has the elegance that I like.... post more?

I'm sure other people will help you better than me, as I'm a newbie, too... but how many hours of sun do you get there? With most roses you need at least 4 hours, right...? If it gets a small amount of sun, you'll have to go with different varieties that are shade tolerant. What color roses do you like? Do you prefer simple or double blossoms...? (etc...?) Does it need to rebloom? It would also help if you said what zone you live in and what the soil type is perhaps...? :) You might find it fun to search a couple rose sellers that list by type. I would paint the stairs a dark brown to match the railing -- be sure to use porch paint, so it can withstand some wear. Then add a runner (although this is not a cheap option). Be sure that the landing isn't plywood, or no amount of paint will make it look decent. Anyway, dark treads plus (current) white sides, means you can keep dark railing and white spindles. It's a classic look. As for the tile, it's just not great. Easiest fix is to darken the grout so that the pattern is minimized, and then find a great entry rug with some color and pattern, which will add cheer and distract from the tile. Someday you can replace it with simple cement-look or slate-look tile in a single color, but meantime, just look at as little of it as possible. A nice picture on the wall opposite the closet will also help happy up the space. Note: keep in mind the rug possibility when picking a runner -- you may want the latter to be solid or in a very simple pattern so that your choices for other decorations in the space aren't too constrained.

You can use white on the house but you have to use it some place besides the entrance. IMO your shutters are way too undersized and this would be a good place to add the white. I added a lantern with mustache brackets over the entrance to light the stairs.

I am planning to paint the stair railing black and a darker shade carpet will be put in shortly. My house has a coastal feel to it. Many medium tone woods. The front door is to the left of the photo so the large chandelier is right above as you walk in.

Ok. If you want a coastal look let me look around a bit. Those you just posted are nice but too formal for coastal look. What coastal climate are you in. The photo of tile roof in your ideabook looks like a more northerly look?

We are located in Northern California. Off the coast a bit but I grew up near the coast so try and bring it into my home a bit. I’m trying to move more towards a less coastal look to incorporate more colors into my home than blue. It’s a slow process

OK that helps. Bringing in the black will really help your overall look. Black helps "ground" a space. Here is a look that might be interesting and different for your high volume entry space.
The glass globes hang from a center plate and you can design whatever look you want because each glass globe hangs independently. Believe it or not, it is pretty inexpensive as fixtures go for large, high ceiling spaces. This is a large home I did a couple years ago and with this turning staircase and a long window that faced outside, we wanted a "statement". This did it and didn't break the bank. You can get different numbers of glass balls as well. A good lighting store could help you do something like this.

For what it's worth I think this bottom one suggested by Labad29 is beautiful. I would go for something traditional as your home is fairly traditional and if you are going to do black and white for the stairs it will look stunning with a beautiful almost parisian looking chandelier. Just my 2 cents

I put together this little mock up to give you a bit of a visual bringing more black into your home. I also moved the aquarium and put a small settee in black and white in entry. A nice spot to sit or put a purse down. I found this chandelier with black beads (more casual look) but still has classic shape and some crystals. Instead of that second chandelier, I found a sconce for the stair wall. New art (your choice—art is very personal) and plugged in a stair rail done in black. I also added black framed mirror and black shade lamp. This is a updated look while still embracing a traditional vibe.

When you can, I would paint more of your walls that gray you have on the inside of the staircase or some lighter/non-peachy color. Since that color goes all the way up the stairs, I realize that is a big job, but if you decide to paint, go lighter on the walls. Very pretty place and lots of fun to bring about a transformation!

Thank you! I don’t have much black in my house so tryinh to stay more of the wood tones. I do like some of the chandeliers you posted. I’ll more into them. Thank you for all your advice
