Comments (10)janealexa, we're having the same size sink installed next week as a bar sink and are putting the regular faucet in the center with the soap dispenser to its right and chiller faucet to its left. There's plenty of room for that; we currently have a faucet, separate faucet handle, and soap dispenser at our main sink spread over just 11" of room (centered on the small sink offset) and it's more than adequately spaced so you'll be fine. For your config I'd do soap on the left and filter faucet on the right to make it easier to get a drink from the end side of the island. Good luck and enjoy your lovely new kitchen. Btw, I love your cabinets....See MoreWhich side of the sink do you use for prep?
Comments (26)Lefty here and I prep to the right of my sink and left of the stove. As a lefty growing up, I had to learn to do some things right handed cause things just seem to be made for right handed people. In this circumstance, I don't really think it would matter which side of the sink I'm on because I do things with both hands. I chop food with my left and sweep food into the trash with my right. No different than when I'm eating a steak....I cut my steak with my right while I'm eating with my left so I don't have to keep switching my utensils around like someone who could only eat and cut with the same hand. Ediblekitchen, Do you mean you prep IN the sink? I have a cutting board that fits in my sink and I never use it. Creature of habit I guess. I do have a colander that expands over the ledge of the sink, so I'll rinse vegetables I'm chopping or pasta in it. I prep to the immediate right of sink over my pull out trash area....See MoreDo you really use a "prep" sink?
Comments (34)I plan to have a separate prep sink on my island with a larger main cleanup sink on an exterior wall next to the dishwasher. It is normal in my house for the sink to get filled with dirty dishes throughout the day (since apparently I am the only person capable of loading a dishwasher). I want a space where I can have a clean sink for cleaning and prepping vegetables that is next to my work space and away from the sink filled with dirty dishes that may not be loaded into the dishwasher until after dinner. However, I think it really depends on how your kitchen is organized. While traditional thinking talked about a "work triangle" (including stove, sink, refrigerator), the common discussion in the kitchen forum has been about "work zones". This concept is brilliant. I usually have an area where I'm prepping, mixing, chopping, etc. I do a lot of vegetable-based cooking so I need a space adjacent to clean veggies, rinse quinoa, etc and that is how I will use a prep sink. This area is separate from my cleanup zone where I have a big sink for hand-washing pots and pans and an adjacent dishwasher for loading daily dishes. You might consider posting your kitchen layout in the kitchen forum. The people there are brilliant when it comes to kitchen layouts....See MoreUser
