Updating exterior painted brickwork (and also enclosed porch or not??)

Hi - We've been doing some maintenance to the exterior of our 1920s terraced house, and need to decide whether to attempt to remove the paint from the lower half of the house where the previous owners painted the brickwork (in a red-brick colour). I've researched this online and had an experienced builder/painter have a look and the general consensus seems to be that attempting this may damage the brickwork (using either chemicals or high water pressure). Has anyone managed to remove their paint successfully to leave exposed natural brickwork?

Also - we have a dilapidated enclosed porch at the front of the house, which needs to be removed. I find the extra space valuable but hate the look of modern PVU porches, which seems to be the only option I can find. Can anyone recommend a website or supplier that can do something that looks more in keeping with the period (1920s-1930s)?

Thanks for any advice!
